Unlikely Coincidences on the Course

I played (sadly) my first round of the year on Sunday, at Quicksilver GC near Pittsburgh, PA.  It was a "public shotgun" start, so I finished with holes #18 and #1.

The two holes run parallel to one another, in opposite directions.

On #18, I pushed my drive to the right, and ended up in a muddy area next to the cart path.  Hit a nice iron to advance the ball up the fairway, leaving a big ol' muddy divot.

Next hole, playing #1, I pushed my drive to the right... and it came to rest in my own divot from the earlier shot (I was able to take relief this time since my stance would have been on the path).

It was definitely one of the weirder things I've seen; I figured I'd start a thread where everyone could share any similar stories.

I think that's karma telling you that you needed to fix your divot (either by replacing the patch of grass and trampling it down a bit, or by using the sand and seed bottle provided on your cart), and you got off easy this time, with the ability to get a drop from the cart path. Next time, you'll have to play the ball down...

So, get in the habit of fixing the course (divots, ball marks, raking bunkers, etc...), not just for you but for everyone else too.  Thanks!

You misunderstood "muddy area" - this was literally a flat (dried) puddle of mud about 3 feet square, and in the rough.  The carts didn't have the seed bottles, but I kind of wish they did just for how ridiculous it would have looked to fill it in.

Okay, you can't reasonably replace a mud divot.  It is, however, a delicious result under different circumstances.  Imagine some bozo taking a big divot out of the middle of the wrong fairway and not replacing it.  Then, on his next hole, finding the crater he left unrepaired.

We have two courses in my town, I have hit another golfer with a ball once at each course. It was the same guy both times.

OT: What the courses in this area need is a 24-hour period without frigging rain...it has been horrible here.  They had to cancel the annual July 4th regatta because the rivers were too high. I think at one point it rained for 15 days STRAIGHT.

Weird story here from West Oz, playing with my bro in law, on a rainy day (winter here), no one but us left on the public course. I pull my shot from the 8th tee onto the 1st fairway, parallel to it. Nothing unusual so far. As I'm walking to my ball on the 1st hole, I see a ball on the fairway, no one is around, we're pretty much alone on the course (2-3 guys at the range). It's a brand new Pro V1, virtually untouched! lucky day I think! as I keep walking 15m ahead, another ball lies on the light rough, another Pro V1! same one, brand new ball, straight from the box. I'm still 100m from my ball at that point, so I hurry up to my ball as the rain intensifies, and you guessed it, on the way to my ball, the third Pro V1 is waiting for me next to my ball! 3 brand new balls from the box in 100m, all from the same box, surreal!

Now I can hear you thinking that I should have left them in case they were in play... they weren't, I looked everywhere but no one but us was playing on the course, that was just weird. Also just to clarify, I usually don't pick up balls if I have a doubt they're in play, I wouldn't want someone to pick up my ball when I'm off the fairway.

I ended giving one to my in law, because sharing is caring.

I'll trade you.  We need rain, bad. I am in Northern California and the courses are bone dry, they stopped irrigating areas that are normally out of play (e.g. in front of the tee boxes, for the next 80 yards or so), the greens are firm and bouncy, and of course the new slogan is "Brown is the new green" (which is fine by me).  But still, we've lost something like 100 trillion gallons of ground water in the last 4 years or so, so it'll take a few times of raining 15 days straight to recover from that...

That's nothing. Here in CO, it rained 26 days in May. I couldn't get out one time in May. Thank goodness that has stopped. You should know, it is considered an arid place here almost like a desert climate. So getting that much rain was extremely unlikely. In fact, it set the record for most rain in May.
