I didn't see the full story, why did the guy have a dash cam? And being that he did, why would he intentionally commit a traffic violation (dangerous as was stated) knowing he had a dash cam? Did the cop start chasing him prior to the violation of the rotary?

He had a dashcam because he wanted to. No cops chased him, the guy made a mistake and took a one way street the wrong way because he didn't see the sign.. An off duty detective cut him off with his truck and then jumped out of the car wearing shorts and a tank top.

I didn't really see anything wrong with what the Dick told the driver. This is how everyone in Medfud talks. :-P The driver was uncooperative, he tried to flee the scene, didn't shut off his motor immediately when he realized it was a detective. He also drove through a rotary without yielding to traffic inside the Rotary. I was driving in Roxbury and Dedham recently and saw a couple near accidents on the rotaries with out of state vehicles. It's tough driving in Boston, but it's obvious and possible even for a Californian to drive there.

It's "Meffud" Lihu. Stick to SoCal dialect please!:-)

Yes, and according to the liberal media (any media other than FOX), this happens in every town across the USA, every day, every hour :-$

What! Being cut off by an off duty cop? Yeah, it is an epidemic we need to address! :)

You obviously have a strong opinion against police.

It would be interesting to see the video of his actual traffic violation. I know those rotaries pretty well having navigated them many times this last trip. If you run them you would endanger a lot of people, and it's pretty obvious.

No, I have a strong opinion toward cops who use the authority given to them in that manner, seriously the driver had no evidence this was a cop until much later when he finally showed his ID, if my kid was in the car with me I think I may have ran him over when he was reaching for his gun I have absolutely no hesitation when it comes to protecting my family, the very first thing this cop should have done was have his ID out.

So now we have police that think  it's okay to unholster their gun when your hooking up your boat in your driveway and another unarmed black man gets fatally shot in Texas, 19  year old college student/athlete, yes I do have a very big problem with this sort of conduct,

I completely agree the cop in this video acted a fool. What I'm saying is (and I know it's a shame ) but addressing this issue needs to be done with intelligent protesting and videos such as this. I understand citizens have rights and want to uphold them...but when you know you're in the right....maintain composure, follow the orders, do not resist and especially start a fight and take the issue to his/her superiors alive and well. I don't know about the athlete being shot? Was that the weird one where the cop shot the guy in his car? All those stories of recent involved the suspect fighting, disrespecting, resisting the officer or other ignorant behavior.

I'm all for acting intelligently on both sides however the side that is the trained professional needs to take the lead at all opportunities, what other profession that has to deal directly with the public gives them the authority to use deadly force if deemed necessary? I know this is not an easy job and thankless at times is probably an understatement and I truly feel for the officers out there that make the sincere effort to make the lives of the citizens they are paid to protect more safe, a real effort needs to be made community wide including rank and file law enforcement to get a handle on this growing problem, a real dialect between the police and the community has to be created to get a better understanding of what is and isn't ok within the law so a mutual respect can be realized and people can be more at ease when the police are there, I think some procedures that the police use are just too threatening and allow too much leniency when it comes to taking someone by force, when it comes to safety I think some officers will use this too often to escalate a situation that probably cooler heads would have been able to resolve things more peacefully.

Is this the one that was burglarizing a car dealership and drove a car through the dealerships window?

What kind of bothers me about this whole dashcam thread is that people seem to be vilifying police officers. They record their every action and statement and look for the smallest error in their actions just to "catch them" doing something, human. The police are only trying to carry out their jobs like any other human being. Yes, everyone makes mistakes. So, attempts to "catch" them with personal dash cams seems like added pressure to their already high pressure jobs. Imagine if your boss decided to video every action you make at work and record every keystroke looking for every single time you make a mistake then post all your mistakes upon the internet and sends links to every employee? Would that make you work better?

The surveillance tape I watched didn't show him driving a car through any window, but it did show him vandalizing a car and just walking around the dealership. Didn't see the confrontation, but as usual he's being described as an athlete/student. Let's be honest here Flopster, he was a criminal. I don't know what happened with the actual confrontation with the officers, but he was in fact a criminal and he tried to run. He wasn't just an "athlete/student".

I didn't see the video, just read the story in the news.  According to the news he drove the car through the window but they could have misreported the facts as they usually do.   Agree, he might have been an athlete / student that was also a criminal

I've said numerous times, there are bad cops out there that need to be fired and / or go to jail but they are a small minority.  These days it has to be damn scary to be a LEO when many of the minority activists are calling for an open season on cops.  Cops aren't superhero's with x-ray vision.  How they react to someone reaching into their coat, pants or refusing to comply with their demands can be the difference between their life or death.  Sorry, but if I'm a cop out there today and an obvious criminal (regardless of color) isn't complying and then goes to reach into their pants or behind their back I'm shooting first and asking questions later.

This is a law that should be passed in all states.  There's no reason public servants shouldn't be held accountable to the people that pay their salaries.

They pay taxes too, so technically they're self-employed. :-D

There's no shortage of cops that think they're judge, jury and executioner.. The videos I've seen show them murdering UNARMED people for minor infractions and getting away with it. These cops need to go to jail period. Sure the police departments are paying millions for their antics but that's the taxpayer money what do they care.

Sounds like the detective was mainly upset because it was him the guy almost hit ...
