Noticed there's a few scratches on my new wood face after some range sessions. Are these defined as normal use scratches?

Posted

That's barely scratched. You need more work with your wood.

Don't think it will affect function but the range needs some grass though.

Range grass?

Some ranges have grass in the USA.

I hardly ever use my 3W, but here's the face.

Scratches aren't from the grass, but from the grit ON the ball. bits of dirt, schmutz and junk that accumulates. Do a lot of Range work and the scratches build up quicker. I'm not a diligent ball cleaner on the course and I notice how the crud builds up on there. Sure, a token wipe off of the mud and grass while marking on the green, but rarely head straight to the ball washer.

Range grass?

Whatever grass.. as in not dirt and pebbles which it seems to me he is dragging his club face over. If you can't find soft surface (proper grass, clean matts with nylon grass etc.,) to hit from then one can either refrain from doing 3W work on range or live with the scratches. I am personally not too nitpicky about scratches since they don't affect function as much for a wood (irons, especially short ones are a different story, IMO) but each their own. OP obviously not enjoying the looks of his clubface.

Normal

Remember you have the grit of sand and small pebbles against range balls that can hold dirt at 80-100 mph.

It's like a sandblast. Someone's going to get hurt -- your club.

Ya know, if you keep hitting everything in the center, you'll wear that thing out before its time.  You need to do like us real golfers and spread that wear across the entire face. :smartass:

Thanks for the complement, though!
