maybe a  6 inch diameter hole from the 4.25? And how about instead of 18 hole courses, maybe have 12 or 13 hole courses?

Maybe the 6 inch diameter hole would allow people to enjoy making more putts and scoring a little better to enjoy the game.

And I personally love playing 18 holes, but think that maybe it would be more enjoyable playing a 12 or 13 hole round instead. I feel like 9 holes isn't enough, but I sometimes think 18 is to long as I do tend to get tired by the end, and when the pace of play is really slow it becomes dragged out and disinteresting to a point.

These are just my opinions and just throwing them out there to get an opinion on what others think about this.

Heck, I'm rarely satisfied with 18 holes of golf, don't you shorten it on me!

lol, I hear ya, just throwing it out there as an option, especially to those of us getting older. Not saying they have to shorten all courses to 18 holes, but maybe if there were some courses that were specifically designed to play just 12 or 13 holes.

Again, I'm just throwing this out there lol.

What about the 6 inch hole Jeremie?

No thank you, while the game is difficult, I rather like it as it is. I don't have a problem with them adding that as an option for others, I just wouldn't take advantage of it.

I don't think shortening is the answer since you always have the option to play less than 18.  The 6 inch hole is interesting though, I wouldn't mind seeing a test run of that.

Strandly, I think its an interesting idea though as well to try a test run of the 6 inch hole.

I think tradition will win this argument and the hole size will never change.

Hogan was an advocate for a larger hole size.  He felt a two foot putt shouldn't have the same value as a brilliant 220 yard shot from the fairway.  He thought the game had too much of an emphasis on putting and not enough of an emphasis on ball striking.  No coincidence that he was arguable one of the best ball strikers of all time.

I have a 12 hole course near here in Fishkill, NY. Its a nice change of pace but not worth much. I'm sure there are other courses with unusual number of holes, but its rare I feel because its so strange. If you want to go down that road, why aren't there tennis courts with a net half the height? Why aren't there basketball courts with 8 foot rims?

The 6 inch hole would be a big let down. I mean honestly, would anyone but absolutely the worst uncoordinated new players miss anything from inside 5 feet? I love the short knee knockers, and the precision of putting is what I think makes it so fun.

Executive, par 3 and nine hole courses are great venues for young and old, beginners, women and men.

There are many who would like a twelve hole course, but hard to tell if they would be supported with revenue from enough customers.

I'm not a big fan of larger cups, but if enough people request or like them for special events, then courses could consider them as an option.

There's a place and time for most everything, maybe the golf industry could use a boost for the good of the game.

We also now know he was wrong. Ball striking is FAR more important. If you want to play fewer holes you can do so now. The hole size is fine.

No....I wish a standard round was 36 holes and cost the same.

Yes the best thing they could do is make 3 hours the standard pace of play and then we could play 36 holes more often. It works in the UK. It's never going to happen over here...sigh

i can drain 100 5 footers in a row on the practice green (slight exagerration, i'm sure i'd miss a bunch of them)... but if i needed it to win a match on 18, i could easily miss a 1 foot hole from 5 feet... :-( pressure putting is NOT my forte...

I recall an article on Golth Monthly were it said Hogan had told an interviewer that putting shouldnt even be part of the game. I dont think id go that far but on occasion i can see where he was goming from.

goth golf... i could get into that... :-D i can see where he is coming from altogether too often, sadly... :-( at one time in my life, i was a pretty adequate "ball striker", but i've never been more than a mediocre putter, and it has gotten worse with age...

A course within driving distance for me has an 8-inch hole tournament that seems to be very popular. It is a 4 man scramble though which is what makes me scratch my head. It is already a scramble so why increase it to an 8-inch cup for that? You already have 4 chances to make the putt.

I like the 9/18 format and not sure I see any benefit to decreasing it from 18 holes. I regularly play in the morning at a course that is $18 to walk 9 or $20 to walk 18. Most days I just play 9 but when I want to play say 12 or 13 holes I just pay the $20 and quit after how many holes I want.

I'm up in the air on a bigger cup. I think it comes down to a larger cup would make it too easy for the pros. I don't think our game (or rules) should be based around the pros performance but unfortunately it is.

My groups will regularly double back and play extra holes, 24+ is not uncommon, so no, less holes is bad, we love golf, it never gets boring.

Bigger holes has always been the silliest idea IMO, weekend golfers don't score bad because they can''t drain putts, a child can putt, they score bad because of everything else.
