When I search "Newport Cup" on twitter, their post is a search result above The Sand Trap's thread. But they simply point to the TST. Obviously some automated thing.

When I click on their website on the twitter profile page, I see no obvious link with TST. When I search TST for sponsors, I see no obvious link with WGT Golf Equipment.

Just curious what's going on.

Good catch. Sounds familiar. I think they've done something like this before, co-opted TST's content.
