Hi all I had a complete nightmare today, ice never topped and shanked so many shots ever! I gave up completely with my driver too. Terrible iron play. The thing is I have had so many lessons and it always clicks, granted on Astro turf. I always mix up my range practice. Earlier today I hit the practice green nearly every time and my chipping was on target. My range practice is varied to mimicking the course. Yet when it comes to grass it's like I mentally crumble. When my swings bang in its bang on. It was extremely embarrassing today, playing with another member is not played with before, I'm sure he must have wondered how I'd even got to join a club! I've practiced a lot on my down swing keeping my hand behind the club head as I've had a tendency to hit ground first, but thought I'd eradicated it. I've had about 10 lessons on the range.. The course just beats me.

I may have misinterpreted what you're working on but you actually want it to be the opposite, the hands "lead" the clubhead on the downswing so that the shaft is inline with the lead arm at impact.

Some drills to check out.

Sorry yes my mistake that's what I've been working on. Also starting my downswing and pulling my club grip down to my foot is something else I've been told to watch for?

I see most people fall apart on grass, including myself,  when the swing is all arms and not enough lower body, or the sequencing is wrong, the arms start too soon.

Yep i scramble my head, thinking of I must hit this ball etc. then the lies can ruin me too even slightly off flat I hit before the ball shank it or whatever. Hey no air shots today though! I think I'm probably rushing stressing and not following through fully. Give me flat AstroTurf and I'm flying the ball

Feel free to start a swing thread. Will be easier for us to help you if we see what's going on.

Thanks I'm trying to fathom how I can do that haha. Just bought myself a stand for my iPhone to attach to my bag. So when I get to my local range where I'm able to hit off the grass and room I will give it a go

One of the things I had to get over was hearing my dad yelling at me in the back of my head about digging up the lawn.

Haha. Definitely some psychology involved for me. It starts and then stays, the embarrassment takes over me

When my brother was in Iraq for the first war (early 90's), they would play golf in the desert by putting down a patch of astro turf under their ball in the "fairway" and hitting off that. They'd do this in the desert on make shift courses, but I hear actual golf courses over there do this too. Problem solved. :-)

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
