Shot 77 today with two doubles. I can't seem to put together 18 complete holes. I've been hitting it great lately (75, 74, 79, and 77 this past week) but always seem to have one or two holes where I slap it around like a moron.

Shot an 86 on Sunday that was a lot better than the number on the scorecard. It rained hard for a few hours Sunday AM, so the fairways were soaked and the rough was very tough. Most of the cups had a couple inches of water in them (I kept waiting for a frog to hop out, a la Caddyshack). Oh, and it was a good 20mph wind with stronger gusts. So it was a bit of a survival day, not a scoring day.

I was even par on the 4th tee, but that's when the winds really kicked up. This was my first round in such wind this year, and I'm still figuring out new irons, wedges and ball. So I missed a lot of greens short/long, and my short game/putting didn't bail me out (35 putts). But I was happy with how squarely I was hitting the ball. No big blow-up holes, no lost balls or OB drives. And I was crunching my new FT-3 driver. Had a couple downwind drives that measured 320, and I hit an uphill drive into a 2-club wind that went 255. Very pleased with that, as I've struggled with the driver this year.

I have a yearly grudge match with one of my best friends later this week, and he's been playing very well lately. I'm going to have to put it together (ball striking, course managment and brainpower) and shave at least 5 strokes off Sunday's round to have a chance to retain the Groesbeck Memorial Cup.

I played Grande Dunes Sunday. Shot a 78. It as a very windy day. I hit a 6 iron 240 on #7 and then on #18 I hit the same shot from 150 and came up just short of the green. Only had one birdie, 330 yard par 4 down wind hit a 3 wood to 10 feet had a nasty side hill up hill putt. Missed the putt but tapped in for the bird. The course was in great all around shape for the summer time, 90ΒΊ, 90% humidity but the breeze kept it from being a misreable day. I was prepaired too. I had 4 gloves, 3 towels and froze 2 borttles of water. Never broke as sweat thanks to the wind. My face is bright red today, a combination of wind burn and sun burn!! Playing at Barefoot Resort - The Dye Course on Wednesday in an Appreciation Outing. Love those Captain Choice tourneys!!

Club championship at my home course, semifnal match vs. 3-time defending champion....
1. par 4: missed 10ft for birdie, A/S

2. par 5: missed 15ft for birdie, A/S

3. par 3: opponent "sticked" it to 10ft, I went for the left-edge pin and overcooked the draw... made incredible recovery from knee-high grass on the short side of the green - executed perfect flop to 5ft to save par, A/S

4. par 5: opponent middle of the fairway, my drive pulled left into lateral hazard. Dropped, layed up to a 100yds. Opponent hooked lay-up into lateral hazard left, tried to "go for it" from 230 and pushed it right into a hazard. 2-putt bogey, good enough to win: 1UP

5. par 4: drive into left rough. Opponent pull left into trees, chip-out, sticks wedge to 3ft for par. Expecting a flier from the rough I landed short, chip runs long, missed 12 ft for par : A/S

6. par 3: opponent pulls left, I push right. From good lie he flops it on the green, 8 ft from the cup. I've HORRIBLE lie, almost whiffed on the first attempt, chipped up and missed bogey putt.. 1D

7. par 4: 3W, PW to 8 ft : birdie. A/S

8. par 4: hook left, punch out, PW to green, 2 putt for 5, opponent pars. 1D

9. par 4: opponent push right O/B, hits 3 off the tee to 100yds, sticks it to 2ft (gimme) for bogey. I hit 3W down the middle, 52deg wedge... SHANK! way right, 70 yds off the green. LobW to 5ft, made the putt for par : A/S

10. par 4: drive, approach, miss 14ft for birdie - push with par, A/S

11. par 3: 20ft miss for birdie, push with par, A/S

12. par 4: drive, approach, miss 14ft for birdie - push with par, A/S

13. par 4: drive, approach, miss 15ft for birdie - win with par (opponent in hazard on approach) , 1U

14. par 3: 30ft away, 2-putt par, opponent drains 10ft snake... A/S

15. par 5: missed 10ft birdie putt, pushed with par, A/S

16. par 4: short hole, 5i + 52 deg wedge to 5 inches! Won with birdie, 1U

17. par 3: 190 into the wind, misjudged, 5i way short... can't get up and down, opponent pars, A/S

18. par 5: pulled drive into parallel fairway, 170 away. Opponent tries to reach the green from 220, hits cartpath and is 40 yds over the green. I attempted to hit the green in 2 to win... wind takes the ball right, shortsided, green runs away about 20ft. Nice lobshot, but rolls 15ft away. Opponent hits to 12ft. I missed the putt by 0.5"... he didn't.

Being an underdog I got a lot of congratulations for a great match, but in my book this was the biggest lost opportunity of my life (second to not buying Microsoft stock 20 years ago).

I suck.

3 over 75 at Moorpark Country Club. One lost ball, one three putt, and didn't get up and down three times... One under on the front, 4 over on the back. They have three nines. We played Canyon Crest, and Creekside. 136/73.8 from the Blacks.

Was pretty pleased with my round, especially finishing one under on the front after bogeying 2 and 3. Kind of lost my concentration for a 2 holes on the back, but, came back around. Tap in birdie on the driveable par 4 15th will do that.

Sheesh, that's a some serious up and down, back and forth action there. But, you did give the guy a good run it seems!

I guess. Last two years he knocked me out 4&3 and 2&1. If I keep the trend going - he's mine next year

Of course now I see how stupid was going for it on the 18th. It was only 170yds, but blocked by trees and I need it to hook it against a strong left-to-right wind.... opponent over green.... lay up, stick it close and forec him to birdie to tie. It's harder to make a putt when you have to than a putt to win. oh well.

Shot 38 on the front before the rains came and league was cancelled. We had some 30 MPH winds today, so scoring wasn't very easy. The greens were wet as a fresh turd, though, so at least the balls stuck.

Drove right on the first hole, punched up right, had 95 yards to the hole - I love this distance. Ball landed inches from the cup, bounced (why????!!!) once five feet by and stopped dead. Drained the putt. One under.

Second hole I made a terrible swing, ball high and right. Punched back to fairway. Had 100 yards to hole from cuppy lie in middle of the fairway. Caught ball a tad fat and pulled the shot a tad, but hole-high. Putt lipped out. Even par.

Hole three I jerked one way left off the tee. I'm not trusting myself not to hit that stupid high laid off cut. Played a huge cut to get to the front of the green from the 5th fairway. Chipped on, left putt short (soggy greens = slow greens, duh). +1

Hit a knockdown 4I that clung to the fringe. Two putts with my 3W and I had a par. +1

Hit a great 3W about 300 yards. Gotta love the wind when it's behind you! So-so wedge (I thought the wind would carry it more to the back pin - don't want to go long though!). Tap-in par. +1

Long par 5 into wind. Solid drive but jerked it left again. Derrrr. Punched out with hybrid. Left with 150 into wind. Hit 4I. Yeah, a 4I. Pin high but in bunker. Expected bunker to be filled with moist sand. It wasn't. Two putts for bogey. +2

200-yard par 3 into same wind, but the tees were "down low" so it was, gasp, only 190 today. Hit 3/4 hybrid shot to 35 feet or so (hitting the green here is a 1-in-5 kinda deal), two putts for par. +2

Hit 3W 300 yards again, but just into right rough. Played for a flyer downwind, didn't get it. 20-foot birdie just fell left at the end. +2

Hit a "hoverball" into the wind - a drive that stayed about six feet off the ground for 250 yards. Had 120 to flag, hit punchy 9I a tad towards the toe. Center of the clubface and the ball was in the hole... but alas, just on the front fringe to the front pin, 20 feet short. Two putts for par. +2

Ho hum. I'll write more about all this in another topic, the Rotella one. Suffice to say, that book has had quite an impact on my game lately.

I had an absolute stinker of a day today. It all went wrong when my 2nd shot to the long 2nd misssed the green to the right and landed in the 1st cut of shortish rough.
Long story short: couldn't find the pesky thing - had to do the long walk back...!
Caught a deep bunker with my next and ended up with a seven - Ugh!
Bitter irony department - I walked over my original ball on the way to the 3rd tee.
Troubles weren't over tho' as twice I took four from greenside positions, and once (Oh! the shame...!) I actually took five shots to get down from 25yds with a decent lie.
Why do these things always happen on a medal day?

I shot 80, but the round was more about socializing with a potential future client than playing golf. I didn't care about my short game at all, including putting, and it didn't help that the greens were all different speeds due to some heavy rains recently.

I fully concentrated on my long shots, and on applying some of the stuff I've been reading about in the Rotella book(s). I did really well at that today despite some mechanical issues (drives going hard left). Next step will be to keep moving on to short game shots and putting.

Shot a 33 in league...and lost. I gave a guy 4 shots that had 12 putts. He drained 3 putts over 30 feet...talk about frustrating.

Hit the ball well off the tee...the irons were good. I missed a few makeable birdies, but can't really complain. Just a solid round.

Fairways and Greens.

What tees do you typically play there, Dave? The championship tees present some awfully long holes!

Hmm. I bit of a good thing in my mental battle with golf today.

Shot two over on the front and two under on the back. 72. New driver too. Didn't have any meltdowns on the back, which has been the problem lately...

Actually, this is at Meadowlands...a different course than my home track. The three hardest holes we play white, the rest blue. For the 9 holes, I would guesstimate that it plays around 3000. Not long at all. Thus the low scores.

Fairways and Greens.

Shot an 80 at a place called Over Lake Golf Course here. I got up and down once on each side and struggled all day. My weak little over-the-top move has returned - I need to get to the range and eliminate it.

I can say this: the score would have been much much higher had I not had the mental focus I've really started to pick up since reading the Rotella books. I mean I hit some bad shots, but I never sniffed a double-bogey, and I had a par putt or better on every hole.

I would have gotten up and down more if the greens had reacted similarly. Some stuck like glue and others, the ball just ran and ran and ran. I hit some pitch shots exactly how I wanted and still had 20 feet for par.

It's a par 70. We played the back first, I shot 41/39 - par is 36/34 (back/front). So +10.

I got an X today in a men's association club championship. I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago in another club championship. I have one left (my home course) hehe.

I was just playing for fun after 9. Even just playing for fun I would have had just as bad of a score on the back (multiple lost balls).

A few things today...

I was trying out the Nike Black's today (out of Pro V1x's). They definately weren't longer for me, but felt about the same as the Pro V1x's to me.

I have really come to appreciate the spin milled Vokeys...great clubs.

I tried going way past parallel on a few drives for fun. This is worth trying some more hehe. The next time I am at the range I'll work on this.
