76 at Whispering Woods today. Made only one birdie, but hit a lot of fairways. Most of the missed GIR were pretty small. Greens were still aerated and still slow. Tough to make putts.

Hit 12/14 fairways, 39% GIR, 7/11 scrambling, and 27 putts.

Shot an 84 two days ago. My putter was what let me down. Hit 10 fairways and 13 greens and then blew it all to hell with 3-putts. NOTHING bugs me more than a 3-putt. I can deal with a bogey from missing a green of fairway, but man, 3-putting from a GIR really gets under my skin.

I played at Quail Hollow Country Club (sort of my local golf course). I hit my career bests at a 50 on the back 9, and altogether I hit a 101.

Came out of my slump big time today. Shot 70 (-2) at a course I have never played before in Denver. Played okay on the front was 2 over but shot 4 under on the back including birdies on the last three holes. Did not hit the ball great but finally was able to score a little. Feels good.

Today I shot a best-yet 93, I had one birdie and one or two pars. Lots more 2-putts than 3-putts today which is good. I set myself up for good one-putts but kept lipping out! But getting that close on my lag putts is great putting for me! If I had made all those putts it would have been an awesome round. Also, I made a 10 on a par 5 on the front nine by putting two balls out of bounds. If I had made a single or double bogey on that hole I would have felt a lot better about the round!

I felt I had good course management, I was hitting the driver pretty well, not too many GIRs but I came close and my chipping/pitching was decent today... I left a 50 foot chip for par three inches from the hole... It was dead on target just needed a hair more. Got up and down with the PW and SW from inside 50 yards very well too. Just need to get up and down with my irons instead so I can be putting on my 3rd shot instead of pitching...

I played 18 with an older gentleman who was really good and I felt I played a lot better with him.

I think the thing I take away most from this round is the importance of 2nd shots. I kept hitting the driver up onto the fairway and then blowing my 2nd shot by trying to blast it onto the green. I kept topping the ball and knocking it 20 yards because I would be trying to kill the ball and straighten my posture on my downswing and miss getting good ball contact. If I can make more 2nd shots closer to the green I will be scoring a lot lower.

Played a local course the other day. Didn't play particularly well. Shot 89, but putted beautifully. It was my first with my new driver, and didn't hit it very well. But made lots of putts.

The real joy of the day is the fact that it was the first time my girlfriend had played with me. It was awesome. I got to work with her on a few fundamentals, but mainly just let her do her thing. She shot something in the 160's maybe, (i can't remember exactly). But on the last hole...probably a 330 yard par 4 straight uphill with a big pond in front of the green, she hit or drive up the right, yanked her second shot probably 60 yards left of the green to avoid the water (her course management is great!) topped the chip shot just barely on the green. Then she holed a 50 foot putt for par. I think after that she's taken up golf hook, line and sinker!!!

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
