Shot a +4 76 today. What a beautiful day, temps around 70 degrees and I wore shorts. Going to be low 70's all week. Mother nature is giving us a much deserved break after snow last week. Hopefully an early spring is in the making.

I went out for the first round of the year, today. I played 9 holes, par 36, and had a 13 over 49. About average for me, last summer. I actually hit the ball really, really well all day, I just couldn't get away from the 3 putts. Once I get comfortable on the green again, I expect my scores to start dropping.

Played match-play against my mate as a warm up for our pennant game on Sunday. I got him 1UP on the last, and pocketed $1. How sweet a victory. 83OTS, 33 putts (par70).

+1 on a 9-hole par 3. Getting fit for a 36-hole jaunt first of March in Vallejo. Starting to trust my grip changes and really working with the putter.

I shot 88 today  (6418, 69.6, 116) which is pretty good for me.  But I only hit 5 fairways, 5 greens and had 5 saves and 36 putts (that sucks with 5 three putts).  But it does tell me where I need to work some.  CU on the putting green.

Up early for a maybe/maybe not game. Constant rain was a challenge. As I was the only one who rocked up I played the back nine alone.

43, par 37 (-1 nett) 13 putts. 1 fairway (rebound off a tree) and 0 GIR.

A good warm up for pennant on Sunday (apparently we will be getting plenty of rain)

If I can hit a few greens, I reckon I'll go alright.

I shot a 78 today at Skylinks in Long Beach, a 38 on the front and 40 on the back.I went bogey, double bogey on 17 and 18. Overall it was a good round with a lot of pars

and an eagle on 15. There were just a few putts i should have dropped, but i have to say the putting is looking a little better

Tale of two nines -- 43 and 37 for an 80 (+8). Damn stupid game. First round out of the 70s this year. Felt a bit glum about it until it occurred to me that I only broke 80 for the first time last September. Decided instead to just be happy that progress has been made.

Played a birthday round yesterday, happened to be my first round of the year, shot 45/45, par 70. Didn't play the greatest, left a lot of putts out there, but really need to get my short game and iron play back in the groove!

Still trying to find my swing!

Today was alot better shot 73 +1 (3 birdies, 2 doubles, 13 pars).  I hit 8/14 fairways, 15/18 greens, totaled 32 putts, not so good in the putting category but it is my second round and the greens were slower than usual.  I thought I would have met one of my 2011 goals in just my second round (shooting par).  There might be an asterik behind this one though as the conditions were PCP because of all of the melting snow.  I left 4 birdie putts an inch short, literally an inch, I was so mad at myself.  If those were to fall I would have been under, or if I would have gotten rid of the two double bogeys on 9 and 18.

Shot 79 today at Legion Memorial in Everett, Wa, a course I'd never even seen before.

I hadn't played since early December due to weather, moving and starting a new job.

40* and 10-15 mph wind. I scored well, but only hit a few good shots, didn't spray the driver, and had 12 putts on the front, with only 2 GIR. Iron game was way off.

Shot 78 at Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe today. First round of the season. Hit the ball so well, missed 2 Fairways and 4 Greens. Putting seemed to be where i was rusty. Winter golf sucks, i hate the cold and the dead greens. I turned 15 foot birdie putts into bogeys at least 6 times.

Shot an ugly 99 yesterday at River Ridge (6274, 69.9, 128).  It was really windy, gusts to 39 and sustained over 20.  It really wreaked havoc off the tee especially.  On one par five, the wind was behind us and my drive split the fairway and went 340 yds, leaving me 155 to the green (made birdie).  On another hole, against the wind, I was lucky to get the ball 200 yds, and you can imagine what happened after that.  Very frustrating round.

80 the other day.  Sprayed the ball all over the place and had another 32 putts, rust still isn't off the putter.

    • Day 470 - 2026-01-13 Got some work in while some players were using the sim, so I had to stick around. 🙂 Good thing too, since… I hadn't yet practiced today until about 6:45 tonight. 😛
    • That's not quite the same thing as what some people messaged me today.
    • Day 152 1-12 More reps bowing wrists in downswing. Still pausing at the top. Making sure to get to lead side and getting the ball to go left. Slow progress is better than no progress.
    • Yea, if I were to make a post arguing against the heat map concept, citing some recent robot testing would be my first point. The heat map concept is what I find interesting, more on that below. The robot testing I have looked at, including the one you linked, do discreet point testing then provide that discrete data in various forms. Which as you said is old as the hills, if you know of any other heat map concept type testing, I would be interested in links to that though! No, and I did say in my first post "if this heat map data is valid and reliable" meaning I have my reservations as well. Heck beyond reservations. I have some fairly strong suspicions there are flaws. But all I have are hunches and guesses, if anyone has data to share, I would be interested to see it.  My background is I quit golfing about 9 years ago and have been toying with the idea of returning. So far that has been limited to a dozen range sessions in late Summer through Fall when the range closed. Then primarily hitting foam balls indoors using a swing speed monitor as feedback. Between the range closing and the snow flying I did buy an R10 and hit a few balls into a backyard net. The heat map concept is a graphical representation of efficiency (smash factor) loss mapped onto the face of the club. As I understand it to make the representation agnostic to swing speed or other golfer specific swing characteristics. It is more a graphical tool not a data tool. The areas are labeled numerically in discrete 1% increments while the raw data is changing at ~0.0017%/mm and these changes are represented as subtle changes in color across those discrete areas. The only data we care about in terms of the heat map is the 1.3 to 1.24 SF loss and where was the strike location on the face - 16mm heal and 5mm low. From the video the SF loss is 4.6% looking up 16mm heal and 5mm low on the heat map it is on the edge of where the map changes from 3% loss to 4%. For that data point in the video, 16mm heal, 5mm low, 71.3 mph swing speed (reference was 71.4 mph), the distance loss was 7.2% or 9 yards, 125 reference distance down to 116. However, distance loss is not part of a heat map discussion. Distance loss will be specific to the golfers swing characteristics not the club. What I was trying to convey was that I do not have enough information to determine good or bad. Are the two systems referencing strike location the same? How accurate are the two systems in measuring even if they are referencing from the same location? What variation might have been introduced by the club delivery on the shot I picked vs the reference set of shots? However, based on the data I do have and making some assumptions and guesses the results seem ok, within reason, a good place to start from and possibly refine. I do not see what is wrong with 70mph 7 iron, although that is one of my other areas of questioning. The title of the video has slow swing speed in all caps, and it seems like the videos I watch define 7i slow, medium, and fast as 70, 80, and 90. The whole question of mid iron swing speed and the implications for a players game and equipment choices is of interest to me as (according to my swing speed meter) over my ~decade break I lost 30mph swing speed on mine.
    • Maxfli, Maltby, Golfworks, all under the Dicks/Golf Galaxy umbrella... it's all a bit confounding. Looking at the pictures, they all look very, very similar in their design. I suspect they're the same club, manufactured in the same factory in China, just with different badging.  The whacky pricing structure has soured me, so I'll just cool my heels a bit. The new Mizuno's will be available to test very soon. I'm in no rush.
