What'd You Shoot Today?

Recommended Posts

Nice rounds Mulldog! I had a totally scizophrenic round yesterday. Four birdies, four doubles, two brainless 3-putt bogies and 8 pars for a 78. Couldn't get out of my own way and had absolutely zero mental game or course management. Just never got it together like my mind was somewhere else the entire time. I'm playing Spyglass & Poppy Hills in Carmel next weekend so hope to have a different mental approach. We'll see, eh?

Shot 75 today, with two double bogies.  Our course is pretty easy as it is 6200 yards, course rating of 68.9 and slope rating of 105.  Not any wind today, so my rhythm was really good all day.

Thanks! In my round of 75 I had 7 bogeys but birdied all 4 par 5's.. I was concentrating well but those brainless 3-putt bogeys you talked about happened to me as well!

Back to the practice green!

Shot 44-38=82 on a windy cool day on a course I play the most frequently. Rusty after a few week layoff. +11 after 11, but hit all 7 GIR on 12-18 and finished +10. Fall greens are pretty quick around here and I had three three-putts, and one for a triple. Looking forward to next time!

Still working with lengthening my swing and having very mixed results. Had to play while the weather was passable and a lot more work is needed. Still there are reasons for optimism.

Saturday,

Kittyhawk GC (Eagle Course), Dayton, OH

53-45-98

I often look at double figures as decent on this course. On par-3, no. 8, I yanked a shot left and was sure I cleared the hazard. After I couldn't find the ball, I went mental for a couple of holes and carded two eights as a result. With very few others on the course, I took time and cooled down on the turn and did a bit better on the back.

Sunday,

Miami Shores GC, Troy, OH

47-49-96

For this course, this is a poor result. Still just can't hit it consistently. Pound the drive, pooch the second shot. Then vice versa. A three-putt on No. 11, with the second from 2 feet, threw me into a blind rage. It was a miracle, I finished the round.

One double, 2 three-putts, best round in a while for me.

80 - So close to breaking the barrier!!!

Front nine 42: One chip in birdie on starting hole par 5 10th hole (played back nine first), one triple.

Back nine 38: Chip in birdie, one double. Three putted once as well as missed several other short putts for par.

Not bad for a 14-15 handicap (current handicap 15.8), too bad my best round of the year came 10 days into the off-season. Previous best this season was 84.

With Winter bearing down on Michigan I was happy to get a practice 9-hole round in yesterday.  Was a little rusty, but played the last three holes in +2 with some good ball striking in 40 degree weather.

83.  ...or about 50 more than the wind speed...

36 putts including a 4-putt. Yuck.

Drives were all over the place - from 175-290 (based mostly on the wind).

But it might have been the last warm day before winter and I had fun!

38-38 on a course I'd never cracked 40 before. The end of this golf year has been good!

So, I headed out today to my local club, River Forest, to play 18 holes. There was a slight frost delay, so I couldn't tee of until 8:45. Played the back nine first and bogied 2 of the first 3 holes, but then I got on a roll and played one over for the next 9 holes. Nothing spectacular, 6/9 greens in regulation, and 2/3 up-and-down from off of the green. The next five holes were not so kind. I missed the greens with my approach, and uncharacteristically couldn't get my chip shot close. So now I'm on the 9th tee, my 18th hole, the number one handicap holes on the course, needing a par to break 80. I tried my best to focus on the task ahead and hit the fairway with my best drive of the day.  The approach shot to the 9th green is what makes this the number one handicap. The fairway and green slant significantly right-to-left, so it is easy to hook the approach shot if you don't hold on, and if you leave it to the right of the green, getting up-and-down is almost impossible. To make a long story short, I hit the ball in the middle of the green, and it rolled into the fringe leaving me below the hole. Two putts later I left with my 40-39=79.

I love this game!

Brookside Course 1 Back 9 blues (6700): 42 (practice round)

3 par, 6 bogey, 8 near GIR, 1 from 120 yards for a par. Didn't top any drives this time, but I hooked one into a tree on the right. Used a 3i to hit through the woods and cleared to 160 yards for a 6i approach and par. The rest of the drives were kind of blah. I hooked into a tree on the past par 3, but it threw it back onto the fairway for a bogey. The other par 3 I hit a tree on the left right by the green and it kicked into the next fairway. Hit a LW onto the green for a bogey. The par 5 were pars for me, and I parred the longest hole.

Shoulder is healing, but I hit too fat on one iron shot and felt the pain again. Icy hot and tennis ball massage are helping it.

Got on the tee box again this morning, and decided that furthering my injuries was just not that wise to say the least. Decided that I would quit while I was ahead (BTW, I shot 41 yesterday, not 42).

Played Brookwater today. Australia's 2nd hardest golf course, Slope 146. Off the back tees. Wind was strong. 110 degrees fahrenheit. I was hungover due to my high school 10 year reunion. I shot 48-52 / 100. My handicap is 4! First time I've shot over 100 in over 13 years!! I was eaten alive. Main thing though is that I had fun.

Good thing it wasn't the hardest course! :-) I played in a customer appreciation scramble on Thursday at the Reunion Watson course in Orlando. My team consisted on a sales rep that plays once per year in this event. Played 2 of his shots. A supplier that had never played golf before (or at least it looked that way). Played 1 of his shots. A customer that was 66 and a 36 handicap. Played a couple of his shots. I hit cleanup. Most holes had no balls in play when I got to the tee. We shot -3 for the day. I putted very well that day. I could have played better, but it was all the beer you could drink and the cart girl came by often.

Yesterday I shot my lowest score ever-78 (=7) 5 and 2. It proved to me the info I received from David MacKenzie wasn't just a fluke but a real deal. I have never played a round where every shot was flush. No that doesn't mean I was always on target but I hit all my clubs better than ever.  Now the snow is falling so it may be awhile before I can put it to use again. I will be practicing in the house though with the putter.
And I was thinking I hadn't improved much this year but reviewed my handicap and it has dropped 2 so not all bad this year. Given another month I'd be in the single digits.

Since it is winter here in north, no outdoor gaming, but recently I made in indoor golf arena 9-hole par-2 close encounter course (chip and putt) for even (E) =)
