What'd You Shoot Today?

Recommended Posts

Played like a dog on Monday, in an inter-club match, too. Opponent did fine, went round in 82, which was just one-over net for him. I went round in 85 or 86 and lost, 4&3. Drive was a bit dodgy from the off - I just couldn't get confident with it and it got progressively worse. Putting went from A1 to shaving the hole and lipping out. Lost the pace of the greens and the range with my chips. Went from 2-up at the turn - out in 40, which is one under net - and back in far, far too many.
Something wrong with my swing - I'm getting my hands ahead on the drives, I think.

Triple bogey on #2 and pulled out a 77

Played in a scramble last weekend which my team won at -6. Luckily, I was set up with 3 hacks who seemed to play fairly well that day. One of them had a $30 K-Mart driver that he was hitting down the middle after the 4th hole (worked the kinks out) so it allowed me to relax and smack it. One of the other guys stopped hitting drives and iron shot after the 8th hole since his back hurt so badly but he was a putting machine for us. It cost me $42 to play and I walked away with a dozen Pro V1s, $75 in gift certificates, countless coupons for food and movies, an umbrella. Made out quite well and it was fun.

Proceeded to shoot 84 the next day at my home course playing on rock hard greens. Basically had to take one less club to hit into every green since they were going to bounce and run when they hit.

Shot 42 ast night in league. Pulled my tee shot OB on 3 when a gust of wind knocked me off balance mid-swing and 3 three putts didn't help. Lipped out the second putt each time.....d@mned aerated greens.

I was happy with my ball striking overall.

shot a +5 76, i was so happy if only I didn't finish bogey, bogey. I one putted 6 in a row though....

78 Today, Didnt play well considering it was an easy course.

Started off great! -2 After 2 Holes including a chip in on the first hole. Driving was very awful today, only hit 4 Fairways today!!! Only 6 GIR.

Took around 3-4 Double Bogeys. Bad round coulda done alot better.

96 at Rancho Park. I think this course is tougher than the slope rating of 117 claims it to be.

Played the par-5s in even par for the day (par on each). Played the par-3s in a total of +7. Went for #18 in two, missed 31 yards short (I stepped it off since I had time). Bad chip (and I have that measurement down!), but two-putted for par.

Threw away my score at #15. Duck hook to rough, slice to bunker, splash out, pull to another bunker, solid out (as opposed to a good out), great chip, pulled putt, tap-in. 8 on a par-4. Then a 5 on a par-3. Then I parred out 17 and 18.

This was my first round with my new irons. #15 aside, and a bad club selection off the tee at #16, I had a great day with my new irons. I love 'em. I need to be a bit more careful with lines and club selection (I went down a club when going into the wind at one point... what?)

Shot 75 (part 71) yesterday. Front I played with hacks but saved a decent score with putts (42 on front). Back I got a groove. Birdied both par 5s, parred the rest and was getting up and down incredibly well (33 on back). Hit 7 Greens (all on the back) and 5 fairways (4 on back) and had 27 putts (14F-13B). Best round this year, wish the front was better though.

Played an even 100 (par 72) at my local club (Peninsula Golf Club in Port Angeles WA). 50/36 on the front 9 and 50/36 on the back 9. I was by myself and I think I hurried myself along quite a bit because it was getting dark.

My whole game needs work, but my putting really let me down today. I 2-putted every single hole and 3-putted at least 7 or 8 of them. I was reading the greens very poorly, hitting short and missing easy 3-foot putts.

I did have several really killer drives, and I made a beautiful shot onto the fringe with my 4-hybrid. I love my hybrids for distance and ease of use, but they aren't my most accurate clubs, so that shot really made my day.

Me and my mate shot 45 points in a 4BBB Stableford today, we had 8 three pointers in a row comming down the back nine, including a chip in from me to keep the stretch going after my partner jokingly said "ahh just chip it in, make it alot easier."

82 at Kiln Creek, had 5 birdies today, offset by 4 double bogeys, a triple bogey, and 4 bogeys.

Just shot 40. Was -1 after 4 but pulled one OB on #5 for a double bogey. Bogey, par, bogey, bogey after that.
Not bad considering i had a 3 1/2 yr. old with me.

87. My iron game was not good, today. 10 of 14 fairways but only 7 GIR. Just not good. Had a few blow up, holes, too. happens.

My chipping and pitching did me no favors today.

I felt like garbage today but only shot 4 strokes more than yesterday for a 104. I couldn't drive off the tee to save my life. usually I have a few very good drives but I was flubbing them terribly. Thank goodness my 3 wood came through to get me down the fairway a few times when I had only hit the driver about 50 yards. I spent another two hours after the round at the driving range and on the putting green.

I also got a new sand wedge, which I was experimenting with for my pitching, and inexperience led to several mishits.

I'm hoping to start getting a few more GIRs and par'd holes.

87 not at the home course. Only hit driver twice, cost me two strokes. Had a poor putting day. Irons were extremely inconsistent. No up and downs. Starting to resign myself to the fact that I'm the king of inconsistency. Walked nine yesterday and shot 37. It was easy. Such is golf.

    • Day 216 (4 Dec 24) - Dink and roll Weds - working on the green side short game covering 5-10 yd chips to low running pitches to about 50 yds (I have accommodating neighbors).  Focused on keeping stance more narrow, eye target about 2” in front of the ball AND not looking up until I see the ball leave.  This drill has really enhanced my confidence in making more consistent ball strikes.
    • As a supporter of the European team even though I chose to live in the US, this is kind of good news. I'm pretty close to Bethpage, but won't be going at these prices. Neither will the crazy drunk NY sports fans who would have made this a very difficult place to play as a Euro. The tickets will go to the city types who are entertaining clients and don't care about the money. Many of them are going to sit there and watch, not get all raucous. I am not dumb enough to believe that this is going to be like a Sunday afternoon stroll in the park for the Euros, but I think it will be significantly more subdued as a result of the prices. Even at $250 I would probably have been watching on the TV anyway so no real skin in the game.
