What'd You Shoot Today?

Recommended Posts

Shot a 73 yesterday. Would have been a great round except for an OB tee shot on the 9th hole which is a par 5, followed by a 3 putt once I reached the green. The OB was a result of trying to be too aggressive, but the 3 putt was just bad.

81....42/39. Very cold!! Very windy!! Played the back side first. Three wayward tee shots converted to three double bogeys. Only one three-putt today. Almost holed greenside bunker shot on last hole. Made three long bomb putts today. First round I'd played in several weeks. Mixed bag..........could've been worse....Happy to be playing.

shot an 85 on a par 72, which is one of the worst rounds i've had in a month or more. i did have a personal best today, though, and had six pars in a row (previous best was five in a row). three or four holes after that par string, though, my game came completely unglued - and had a double, then two holes later, a triple. throw in three holes where i had makeable par putts that i just couldn't get down... yeah. i was probably lucky to get away with 85 overall, way my game was today.

83 today which surprised me... it was pretty cold an realllly windy... balls were flying everywhere i didnt want them to go... the opposite of my last round... driving was horrendous in the wind an putting was terrible cuz i couldnt feel my fingers... but my approach shots pretty much saved my round from being off the scale

I shot 83 today. What was amazing is that I actually got the ball up and down today and even chipped in once.

I hit 9/14 Fairways
I hit 2/18 Greens
1 Lost ball penalty
I had 27 putts - my lowest total of the year by 3 strokes.

My greens were down, usually I hit 5 or 6 a round but I was sticking my wedges which really helped.

Tied for my best round of the year!

38.......walked nine late this aft. 7 pars 2 boges. Probably the best I've played in a while. Bought a momentus swing trainer yesterday. Instant results! Not really. I'd been hitting it better lately but I just put it all together today.

A little late, but I shot a 98 last weekend. I was really ecstatic, because it was my first time breaking 100, and it came right after taking a lesson with the local golf pro. :D

58 for 9, but I felt like I got away with that. My round felt a lot worse. It got off to a horrible start when I put my 3rd shot on the first green (par 4) and then $#$!$&%!$ 4-putted for triple bogey. As I said to the guy I was paired with, I usually screw up that hole (1st handicap hole), but not usually *that* way. Losing a possible par and sure bogey that badly really set the tone for the round.

The next hole was also a +3 on a par 4, but was more like I usually do it -- tee shot in the woods (pull-hooked my 3W off the tee, which is at least a novel error), reasonable recovery to what should have been an easy pitch to the green, but took 3 chips to get on. At least I 1-putted when I got there.

From there, things were mostly my usual lame self, although I totally flubbed the tee shots on all 3 par 3 holes. Most frustrating was the 2nd par 3, which I'd figured out a 5W should put me on easily, especially since I was hitting my 5W on the screws during warm-up. Sadly, I toed the hell out of it and it went about 30 yards into the trees on the right. Took a 4I punch shot out into the fairway... I thought... wound up rolling all the way into the sand to the left of the green. First blast attempt moved the ball about 10 inches. Second put me on, and I think I wound up two-putting for 6. Ouch.

There was a bright spot when I bogeyed two in a row. But everything fell apart on the 9th when all I could do was hit about 3 feet fat and go 50 yards at a time. I gave up counting and took my ESC 10 (though I did putt out somewhere around that). UGH.

The whole round was actually about typical for me, but disappointing after a 52 a couple weeks ago that was actually very close to breaking 45 but for a couple of disaster holes. I guess I just front-loaded my screw-ups so the round felt more pathetic... oh well, at least I can keep golfing here in California. Clearly I'm just taking extra strokes for all you folks up north who can't be out!

Ah, I feel better knowing I am not the only high handicapper on here. I shot a 107 yesterday and I felt like it was going to be better but when I tally'd it up it surprised me. I have been playing for 6 months pretty solidly and just now starting to figure out what is working and what is not.

shot a 90 yesterday... couldnt carry over water to save my life... something funky is happening with my driving and i need to figure it out quick... time to break out the vidcam an hit the range to punish some balls
RUSS's avg drive - 230yrds and climbing

Kind of an opposite round from yesterday. The putter wasnt nearly as good but I hit waaay more GIR. I shot 82 today

5/14 Fairways
9/18 GIR
36 Putts

It really feels great, my game has gotten exponentially better this year and I've recently had a nice jump from the Low/Mid 90's to consistently finding the 80's.

Here's to winter golf I guess!

Back from 1 week in Maui. Played a round or two everyday. The following is where I played, what I scored, and my review of the course.

Friday, Dec. 5. Booked 8am teet ime at Kihei GC through TeeTimeHawaii.com
Cost $125- cart included. Service excellent.

Kihei GC was also known as Sandlewood GC.
Now I haven't touched a golf club since the last week of September, so everything was stiff and rusty. I practiced a bit and found the I was fading everything so I played that shot all day.
Shot 40 front 46 back. I took a 7 on a 166 yard par 3, kicked my butt.

The course was beautiful, green excellent. Took a bit to get use to the mountain and ocean breaks. Even on uphill straight looking putts, the ball will still break towards the ocean. Very tough to read.

Excellent course - I'd recommend it.

Saturday, Dec. 6. Booked 8am teet time at The Dunes at Maui Lani through TeeTimeHawaii.com
Cost $99- cart included. Service excellent.

I learned something about booking tee times through a service. I'm a local boy born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. I don't live in Hawaii so I don't have a license or an Hawaii ID so I don't qualify for the local course rate. But sometimes, if I'm lucky I can get that rate just because of my local heritage. I missed out on the local rate here since I already paid for the round through Teetimeshawaii.com. I would have got the local rate of $45 to play, shucks.

Shot 45 front/ 42 back.

This course is absolutely a pain-in-the-butt to play if you haven't played here before. Blind fairway's and greens'. 4 to 6 foot fairway pot bunkers. Narrow Fairways. Only 1 dogleg left, all the others where straight or dogleg right. And my fade from the day before turned into a draw. I couldn't fade to save my life. The greens where absolutely simple. I had six 1 putts and 3 chip- in, it was getting on or near the green that was difficult.

I'm not sure if I'd play this course again. But if I had the change I'd do it just to see if I can score better.

Sunday, Dec. 7. Booked 8am tee time at Pukalani GC through TeeTimeHawaii.com
Cost $78- cart included. Service good.

Shot 37 front/ 40 back

This course wasn't as challenging or great, but the views were beautiful. Very similar to your local municiple. You can get a cheaper rate if you played in the afternoon after 2:30pm - no cart. for $28.

Monday, Dec 8. Walked on 7:15am tee time at Wailea Emerald GC.
Cost $150- cart included. Service excellent.

Shot 38 front/39 back.
Three days of golf got my swing in the groove. I felt relaxed and swinging with rythem.

I loved this course. Views were amazing, seeing Molokini and Kahoolawe in the distance. Greens where in excellent shape, fairways nice and the rough... well if you played in Hawaii the rough is really rough. The balls sink to the bottom and the grass is like burmuda if it isn't and I recommend just staying out of it, which I mostly accomplished on this day.

A must play if you visit Maui. Also note that you can play the Gold Course for $70 extra.

    • Day 35 (26 Feb 25) - Day of easy work (hanging around the house as son had shoulder surgery and I needed to help keep an eye on him).  Worked on low spinner 50deg wedges - keeping the ball low flighted and checking quick.  Went with the 8i after to do low flighted runners.  Great visit on two ways to get the same/similar results.  May be able to get away tomorrow for a short 9hole round (as long as the son's recovery cooperates).....
    • Day 1: 2/26/2025: So, I'm starting over on this again.  My son brought home the mother of all flu bugs from school. It raged though our house and knocked me on my butt for about 3 days.  Now, that I think I'm clear of the death plague my son gave me. I was able to rise early this morning and get some nice mirror work in. I felt stiff like a board for the first few swings, but loosened up and was able to get at least 20 minutes of first robotic slow swings and then gradually more fluid swings.  My focus was on the timing and fluidity of my priority pieces.
    • I use a MagSafe connector on my tripod. Occasionally I use those clips.
    • Working on some swing videos. What are you guys having the best luck with as far as devices used to record the swing?  I have a tripod with a magnet that I stick my phone on but it is somewhat of a pain because I have to remove the cover on my phone and when I pull it off the magnet the tripod head changes and moves position. I was thinking something more like an ipad maybe. On a different style tripod and maybe even set it up to mirror to a tv.
