and on an interesting side note i drank 4 liters of water while playing today...it was probably like 100 degrees here in Va, just crazy if you ask me.

Yeah, up here in Fredericksburg, Cannon Ridge is offering huge discounts this August for players that want to come out in the morning. Plus, they're offering free water bottles all day out on the course. I'm sensing that this recent heat wave has negatively affected business. I know I hate going out in triple digit heat.

I shot 73 and closed (well, on the back nine) with three birdies. I nearly had three back-to-back, but I was just past the pin (and six feet away) at the 11th - a no-no.

Shot 73 today 33-40. Just lost concentration on the back side. Went into 17 two under and took a triple. It was the first time in my last 5 rounds I have shot over par. Finally it seems my game has turned a corner. I am hitting the ball better than I have in years. I am -5 in my last five rounds. I just hope I can keep it up in the tournament this weekend cause the handicap is going down..........

On Thursday our club plays Waimea Country Club located on the Big Island of Hawaii near the town of Kamuela. This course is rated 69.6 from the Middle Tees with a slope of 125. We show up at 7:30 AM and there is nobody in the parking lot. We usually rarely see anyone else on the course. My club today played as a fivesome. All the guys I play with are over 70 yrs. old. Their handicaps range from 12 to 25. I just got my GHIN index for August and it is a 9. Last year at this time it was a 15. If you want to know how I did this you will have to send me a private message. Anyway, my goal today was to say, "Tick Tock, like a Grandfather Clock" silently to myself during each swing off the tee today. Working on my tempo. I hit 12 out of 14 fairways doing this. I had 10 pars and even with 5 lost balls, I shot an 84. 44 on the front and 40 on the back. My big mistakes came by hooking 7-irons which will be my focus on the driving range tomorrow. Everyone puts up $3 into a pot at the beginning of the round. Skins are handicap adjusted. Total money in the pot is divided by the total number of skins (low gross gets a skin). There were 9 skins today, I won six of them. (About $9). Why do I play with these guys? Well, I took early retirement. Most of the guys my age are still working, I love to play golf in the morning and especially when no one else is on the course.

I really don't care enough how you dropped 6 strokes to send you a PM, but God Damn - tell me how you make 'early retirement' happening!

. I'm 40 and I'm ready! Especially if I get to retire in Hawaii

Wednesday is our league night and it was 97 degrees with 90% humidity when we started. Compounding matters I had my back flare up on me Sunday afternoon. I have had back spasms all week and sciatica down my right leg. I was playing the second best golfer in the league and they are also the second place team so I figured I should try to play. On the first tee I could barely hit the ground with the club I was so tight. I started double bogey, bogey but so did he. Over the next 5 holes I went par, birdie, par, par and par. I was able to finish with a double and a tripple and still beat him by 6 net. With 5 weeks left, we have almost got the league title locked up. There are 6 points possible each week and any combination of us winning 6 points or them losing 6 points will eliminate them.

i shot a 96 today....needless to say as number one seed on my hs team we got killed

your HS golf started already? wow. actually... nevermind. i live in hawaii and our season starts towards the beginning of january.. i guess you cant really play golf anywhere else but here during those months.

anyway, to stay on topic, i played a round yesterday and shot 76. 40/36. anyway, the course rating is 70.2, slope rating 119. it's a pretty easy course. the first hole is a par 4 and i scored a 7. i thought it was going to be a horrible round but things got better. 6 bogeys, 1 eagle, 3 birdies.

Shot 81 at a course I had only played twice before. 133/70.8. Managed a couple of double bogies. I am really trying to limit anything more than bogie. That is where my game suffers. I have one bad shot and I just can't seem to recover for bogie. Aaaaaaaarrrrrggggg.

Hey CD Driver: Don't be too hard on yourself. Take some time to smell the roses out there. Patience will eventually win out. Great score!!

Played at my father-in-law's club in Ngaruawahia near Hamilton on Saturday.

Shot an 82 - 10 over. 8 over the back nine (which we played first) And 2 over the front nine.

I was pretty pleased with the way I struck my irons and my driver, as the following will testify to:

GIR: 14 (including 9 out of nine on the front nine) 77.8%
Fairways hit: 6 out of 14 for 42.9%
Total Putts: 40..!!!! Yes 40...!!!! 2.22 per hole
Putts Per GIR: 2.36 - this includes my one birdie of the round on a par 3......

So, looks like I'm gonna be working HARD on my putting for a wee while.

Having said that, all my 3 putts (4 of them) and my 4 putt were short - the practise green was miles faster than the course, and the greens at my home course a much firmer and faster......

Shot 84 at my home course's sister course. Just couldn't get anything going. Routine round, although I did learn a lot I didn't know about this particular course that I can use next time I play there.

I goofed around a bit on the front nine (hit some weird hooks - had the SasQuatch out - was hitting everything with hooks, so not the SQ's fault). Probably shot 40 (going back over it in my head, that sounds right). Shot even par on the back - one bogey, one birdie, several birdie chances.

So, 76, which at my club, is 4.0 on the nose (71.2/136 or so, I believe).

87 which included 2 doubles, a quad (don't ask), and 2 birdies. Stuffed an 8iron to about 2 feet on a par 3, one of my best shots ever. The 87 was good for a 13.7 differential, which is my lowest of 4 rounds that I've tracked since I started playing again (did shoot an 86 recently at a slightly easier course, which gave me a 15.7).

I shot 82 with a double on the last hole, 2 birdies, 10 bogeys, and 5 pars at a course i had only played once (13 holes raincheck) with a 71.4, 116 rating. Im putting better now and i struck the ball farely well today. My driver could have been better but i usually left myself make able shots into greens. Unfortunately i felt terrible (stomach ache and cramps) throughout the round, but tried not to let it affect my swings.

79 on the same course. No birdies, despite multiple opportunities. Never really let anything slip away, but couldn't get anything going.

Hit some really good drives, though.

83 today in 20 mph gusting winds on a par 72, 71.1/124 rated course that I have played once a week for the past year and more than 200 times in the last 25 years. Goal today was to keep the driver in play. Lots of OB on this course and I met my goal. 18th is a par 5 with a water hazard that goes all the way around the front of the green. It was playing downwind and I got there with driver, 4-iron. The eagle putt stopped less than a centimeter from the front lip. Nice birdie to finish. 9 pars. Triple and two doubles were the blemish on an otherwise solid round.

i play in the heritage invitational, which is a big high school tourney (they had 24 teams). i ended up shooting an 80 (40/40), not too bad, but not that great either. i hit 4 fairways, 10 greens, and had 35 putts, with 4 3 putts.

I do have to say its a HUGE improvement over my 96 last week. i now actually have confidence back and i have an idea that i'm going to try in our match thursday which will hopefully help. (the idea being to not think ahead and hit one shot at a time, which is really hard for an analytical person like me)

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
