I shot 76 or 77. My buddy Don and I were playing against the head pro and a HS kid, straight up, even though we were a few handicap shots better. We beat 'em 5&3. I was in my pocket a few times on the front, but turned it around and shot 36 on the back with two birdies and one more "in the pocket" for a double.

Made a 40-footer on one hole for a par after cold heel topping the 3W off the tee, and made a great birdie with an awesome pitch from about 58 yards away, little green, green 20 feet above me when I went for a par 5 and double crossed myself (pull hook, not nice cut).

77 (6 over) on the home course this afternoon. We had a nice cloud cover all morning, so we decided to go around 3 this afternoon. By the time I drove to the course, the sun was shining brightly and burning down on us.

I made a long putt from the fringe to save par on the 1st par 5, dropped a 45footer for birdie on the 2nd par 5, hit the stick on the next par 4 for birdie. Just one of those magical days. I had to triple the last hole by hitting one OB to get to the 77. Just a par on the last and I would have set my all time low round.

Last night was our league. For the first time we could actually wrap up the title mathematically. I still have back spasms and sciatica, but I decided to play and try to carry my bag. I was giving him 4 shots for 9 holes, After 3 holes I was down 5 and my back was killing me. The women in front of us were playing at an all time slow pace and I was ready to kill someone.

I hit a mediocre tee shot on 4 but followed with a 105 yard wedge to 8 feet. I rolled in the birdie to pick up 2 shots. I made a great par save on 5 after a poor tee shot and picked up 3 more. Now we were even with 4 to play. I beat him by 5 more shots over the next 4 holes. My wife won by 10, net 6 and we locked up the belt with 4 weeks to play. We are both 11-1 in our individual matches and we are 10-2 in team matches for a total 64 of 72 possible points.

I shot 74 - 39 35. It was a tale of two nines. On the front, I was stiff and just kind of "eh." On the back I tried to stay balanced on every swing and shot 35... with a bogey on the 10th.

One of my birdies (#16) was a bit lucky. Really slammed into the back of the cup. Would have rolled off the green otherwise.

Good score! Last summer I broke 80 for the first time in my life (40 years of golfing) with a 79. I hadn't broke 40 for 9 in over 10 years. This summer I've had 2 39's and one 38 (my lowest ever) but I had a ace in that 38, LOL. Lately I've been mid to low 40's. Jumped up to 50 a couple of weeks ago. Have an inconsistent putter. When the putters on I'll score. If the putter is off it can be nasty.

Well, repeat my last round less 1 stroke. Shot 76 on home course. This time instead of triple bogeying the last hole, I doubled it.. Yet another one OB. I swear today, I am hitting a 7 iron twice instead of driver on that hole. It is a narrow fairway with OB close down the left and the driving range on the right. The only drive I pushed all day.. Aaaaarrrrrrgggggg!!!!!

37 on nine (+1), by far my best score since coming back to the game a few months back. This was also done with my new driver (R7 425) and my new irons (TM MB TP). These clubs were soooooo sweet, I can't wait to get out and play again. I'm hoping to get atleast 3 rounds in this week so i'll post my scores and see if the good play continues.

Shot an 87 today. Pretty good off the tee today (though I only hit 6 fairways, didn't miss by much on the others) , not terribly good ball-striking (only 7 GIR), and absolutely horrid putting.

I was trying out the Utley grip, and it took some getting used to. Took 21 putts on the front nine, with four three-putts in the first six holes. Settled down eventually, and took a decent 16 putts on the back, with only one three putt.

Not sure if I'll stick with the Utley or not yet. We'll give it some time.

I shot a 125 today, had the worst shanks i've ever experienced and lost like 12 balls. I went to the range after and was ok, no clue what went wrong but it was not fun. my last 4 rounds have been 92, 105, 117, and this 125. Time for a lesson.

With a 30-shot swing in four rounds, yes, a lesson is recommended. It's probably something so incredibly simple you'll want to smack yourself after you fix it, but... don't. It happens to all of us.

Shot 78 today at a course I don't play often but and I hit the ball great. I hit the first hole, a short par 5 in two and four-putted. The green speed and pin cut locations were absolutley retarded. The guy said they had a tournament and he wanted to make it diffucult, but it was just flat out stupid. Every pin was in the back of the green and tucked behind a bunker.

Needless to say, I won't be coming back for awhile.

Shot 85 yesterday - in the 2nd round of our Match Play Club Champs, ended up winning 3 & 1 after winning 15,16 and 17 - 17 a small 112 mtr par 3 paying into the wind, hit a half nine iron to the front left - pin was cut back right 45-50 feet away. I was first to putt and broke my opponents heart by holing it..!!!! Never look like missing either - first one of those I've holed in a long time.

Semi-final next Saturday, and 36 hole final on Sunday.

Wish me luck

I was able to skip out for a short-weekend trip to Myrtle (fly in Sat night, fly out Sun night). Saturday we got rain, pretty heavy, so I was happy with my 82 @ Love course. Sunday was beautiful - shot back to back 75's (Norman) and Fazio(par 71 ) . The round @ Norman was the best I played in a while. the 3over par inculded 3 brain-farts ( 2 3-foot tap-ins lipped and overly agressive putt on one of the par-5 resulting in a three-jack). I'm glad that for a change I could score decent on a course other than my home track...

last 2 round have both been +1 (on nine) with one birdie and 2 bogeys each time out. This morning I hit 1 fairway, 5 GIR, and had 15 putts. right now my aim off the tee is killing me, i'm sure it's off everywhere but you notice it the most with the longer clubs luckily my short game has come back pretty rapidly from my 3 year hiatis(sp?) from golf all together. I started playing a month or month and a half ago or so with my dad and decided I wanted to try to get back to the level I was at when I was playing tournament golf so I got some new clubs and a new driver and that was the best thing I could have done. My first time out with my dad a bogey was like a par for me now i'm giving my self birdie chances more often than not and have lowered my score by about 15 strokes in the last month with my new additions.

i shot a 91/83 in a two day tourney yesterday and today....i couldnt hit my driver worth anything, i think i hit about 5 fairways combined on both days. and my putting was a bit off too. ooooh well.

anybody got any tips about playing well for a whole round??? today i shot a 38 on the front with a 7 on a par 4 that i was sitting in the middle of fairway exactly 150 out after my drive, and 5 putts that looked like they were going in and either died just as it got to the hole, lipped out, or burned the edge. then i went on my merry way and shot a 45 on the back.

it always seems i get unlucky right when i need a good break to get back on track. i was 6 over on the back and i smashed a perfect drive on number 15 about 300 yards right down the middle of the fairway only to have my ball be sitting in the a halfway grown back divot. so it was basically a small hole. and i ended up doubling that hole when i really needed a par or birdie, but thats golf, or at least my expericiences with it.

    • I had an interesting one yesterday, a local qualifier for the US Senior Open, at the Cascades Course at the Homestead.  Well, first things first, the VSGA arrnged for the officials to play the Cascades on Monday at the players' practice round rate.  Its lots of fun, rather old-style (built in the 1920s).  anyway, a player missed a short putt, and (apparently embarrassed) took a step to be ready to tap the ball back in.  The ball lipped out, and hit the player's foot.  I was nearby, and they waved me over, and asked "What do we do now?"  I was pretty sure of the ruling, but asked them to wait for a few seconds while i double-checked.  I did have it correct, even though its one of the more confusing rules in the book right now.  I'll leave the correct answer out for now, in case anyone wants to guess, or research it, and post their ruling.
    • I am going to try to try to have more intent with my shot routines. I saw this process in a YouTube video I watched last night.  Decide what you want to happen - Yardage, shot shape, start line Visualize what you want to happen - Straight forward, but one tip he suggested was while focusing the shot take in a slow deep breath (like 4 seconds in duration), hold for 1 second, then exhale slowly (like 4 seconds again). There is some evidence to show that this rhythmic style of breathing can help in calming heart rate and improving focus.  Feel what you want to happen. - Your 1-2 practice swings. Like if you need to hit your PW at 90%, feeling that.  Commit to what you want to happen on the ball.  Post-shot routine, where you either gain confidence from a good shot or learn from a mistake to foster a growth mentality. - If it was a good shot then give yourself some good vibes/feedback. If the shot didn't turn out, then access why to learn from it. I am going to add, don't get negative.
    • I mean, if you like GZ, and would drink it more often during a round than water, then keep drinking that. If you walk 18 holes, on a hot summer day, and drink 2 20-oz waters or 4 20-oz GZ. You will benefit more from the 4 20-oz GZ because it's like 99.99% water, lol. Yea, if flavored water makes you drink more water, then that works better.  I would just monitor the salt intake relative to your own health. I am sure some people might have to be careful. GZ is 280 mg salt. So, 4 of those is over 1000 mg. It is over 4 hours. That is like half the daily recommended intake of salt. You are probably losing some of your salt reserves playing golf. Long winded way of saying, it depends on the person.
    • My first few years playing golf, I'd take a 32 oz Gatorade (probably pre-zero;  almost certainly Gatorade Tiger when that was a thing) with me in my bag, but I'd otherwise take water (in about the volumes I take now).  From your post, it seems like going back to something like that might be a better idea for me -- primarily water (maybe with some fruit or mint leaves thrown in for flavor) and one bottle of sports drink, rather than a diluted sports drink across all I'm drinking?
    • Yesterday evening, I watched The Gentlemen, a Guy Ritchie film from 2019 that I evidently missed on first pass.  It's a par, but it's a par on one of those long par-4s where the par feels like a birdie. It's in a similar vein to some other movies like Lock Stock, Snatch, or Layer Cake (which was Vaughn, not Ritchie).  If you liked those, I think you'll like this.   A friend suggested it a few months ago, and I started it one night and couldn't finish because I was having trouble following.  In retrospect, that was an artifact of trying to watch the movie too late in the day.  I started the movie at the beginning earlier yesterday and got to enjoy the full thing very much, but unlike some other movies, I encourage anyone to watch this when they're awake enough to catch which characters are which.  In my case, watching with subtitles helped me understand what some characters were saying.
