Did more flat wrist drills, and the swing feels a lot more powerful again. Played a round last night with better results than last week, but my drives were still in the heel. I was planning on a practice round, but then decided to count it anyway.

I need to work on the hip turn sequencing better. Also, keep my spin angle. My back swing is shorter and slower, but I still pull the ball with the woods and hybrid.

After a horrendous string of scores in the 90s (73/131) I finally broke the trend with an 89 (4 greens/37 putts/16 diff)) and an 84 (7 greens/33 putts/11 diff). The feeling of spinning around my spine (maintaining the spine angle) is helping me keep the ball straight. I still hit a few trees, but in general it was fine. The last hole was terrible as it was played somewhat in the dark (3 putt double).

My practice today was some drills in the office while doing mental "problem solving". Solved that problem too, but I'm going to need to spend a lot more time with taht problem solving the next couple weeks. . .

Went to the range at lunch.  Continuing to work on secondary axis tilt and sliding my hips forward on the downswing.  I felt like I was hitting my 6 iron well today.  I was pushing the ball with my driver, but I had good distance and launch angle seemed pretty good.

Went to the range today and worked on the swing. I also spent some time on pitching, working on keeping my head more still and remembering to make slow backswings.

Don't think I'll have too much time to actually practice, so I'll just state that I spent 5 minutes of practice swinging a PVC pipe in front of a mirror and some chair drills.

Practiced putting as it appeared to make a difference between my last two rounds? I found out that I am more of a center/angle putter so I had a little time to try different types of putter. There were toe weighted which felt really artificially stronger like the Ping Zing which I tried as well.

The one left handed Scotty I got to try was really really nice, but the Karsten was more within my budget. The Scotty sank about 2 shots more out of 20 at the store and was not worth the mid-$$$ versus the Ping. Both are tremendously better than my 3 year old Adams A70.

Turning into quite the range rat.  Hit a bucket of balls at lunch.  In my bag I have a 2, 3, and 4 hybrid (I've never had any success with fairway woods).  My 4 hybrid has been giving me fits lately, whereas it used to be my favorite club.  I worked on hitting it today, and could not get any consistency with it.  At the end of the bucket, I switched to my 5 iron, and was hitting it nearly the same distance, but with much better consistency and accuracy.  I'm pretty confused at the moment.

Did some range work last night getting my sequencing with my playing clubs. Working on loosening the muscles after all that heavy club work the last month or so. Was just starting to get good results, which I am hoping to take on the course this weekend.

Some putting practice on grass with my newly acquired old 1959 style Ping B60 putter.

Doing swings with just the shaft to work on keeping my lag.

Had a lesson this afternoon. We worked on my tansition again. Ive come so far from the inside ( sometimes with a path of 9*) for so long that the process of changing this has been rough. I feel like Ive made some progress now though. Basically my feeling is to come way over the top, almost like Tiger Woods old practice swings when he would swing way out to in. On video Im still coming from the inside but not as severely as before. It feels OTT but feel isnt real:)

At work again this morning, because I couldn't get my task done yesterday. . .actually, I couldn't get a tee time. . .

Doing the wrist loading drills with my PVC pipe club, and the office chair weight shift drills. Going to the range later this morning with my normal playing clubs to prepare for tomorrows two rounds.

Hit balls into my net this morning. Working on my position from A4 to A5. Also using a mirror to see that my right arm is moving correctly in the downswing. Practiced using very slow swings. I did nothing full speed today. My right arm likes to straighten way too early and end up too far away from me. If I can get my transition to what its supposed to be and my right arm working properly I feel a big improvement is going to happen in my swing.

Doing the wrist loading drills with my PVC pipe club, and the office chair weight shift drills. Going to the range later this morning with my normal playing clubs to prepare for tomorrows two rounds.

Went to the range at 10am-ish. Warmed up with about 50 balls then played "holes" with the remaining balls. Someone at the range told me the drive distances, as I couldn't see any of the balls landing due to the glare of the sunlight. . .Now that I am using the Ping i20 irons and the i25 driver I feel more in control of where the ball is going to go. Still mishit most of my shots, but they still hit the target greens a little less than half the time. Not all of them stuck, but they hit the "greens". Hitting off a mat is really great, because I can pretend I'm good :-P

Did more putting with my Ping B60. It's much more stable and I can actually use the factory alignment line on the club rather than one I needed to pencil in on my old A70 putter. :-D

Did some hip turn drills, which didn't help at all on the course because I wore a thick jacket which threw me off completely. :-P

I sliced a few drives, but still managed to shoot a 42 on the back 9 (73/131). Course played a bit longer in the cold damp temperatures (43F and beer bottles, the smell of beer and tire marks all over the course. Guess there was a football game. I felt kind of bad for the players coming up the 9th with a large black pickup truck parked right where most people would want to hit their tee shots). Lost two strokes hitting out of the deep tire treads, doubling the last hole. Each hole played about 2 clubs longer. Putting saved my score as I only got 1 green. 14 putts from using the Ping B60 putter. It feels solid. The 3% putting practice helped a lot, I'm enthusiastic about practicing 10%.

Hit balls into my net again today. Made slow backswings, paused and then went to A5 slowly, then pulled the trigger. I did this for a little over an hour. Im not ready for full speed yet but its coming along. Also worked on my putting setup and posture in my living room and rolled quite a few putts while watching tv.

Still working on the wrist loading drills with my i25 driver. That thing feels like a little twig when I swing it. I can barely feel it in my fingers. Sliced for 4 holes yesterday afternoon. My best hole was a wide open 474 yard par4 because the slice didn't put it into the next fairway. I used a 3W the rest of the driving holes. :-P

My straightest drive was where the heavy slice fought the strong side wind. My daughter's ball ended 10 yards ahead of mine as her playing partners vouched while walking past us. . . :-P:-P

    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
