My OLD Greg Norman rain jacket finally fell apart. Looking for a new short sleeved ( Florida) reasonably priced jacket ( seems like all Gore Tex jackets are over $300!).

l liked the Footjoys but they have a 2 yr waterproof warranty. Pay 150-270 dollars and have a 2 yr waterproof warranty?? Any suggestions please?

I just picked up a Sunice short sleeve rain jacket. It was on sale at GolfSmith. It is light and better for warmer weather. I picked it over the Footjoy because it felt a little lighter and fit better. The sales rep had one and recommended it.

I also checked out the Galway Bay short sleeve rain jacket. It was nice, but had a liner and was too warm. They have a summer weight version, but they didn't have it in my size. I did get the rain shorts and they are very nice.

I use a Stuburt Sport and its more than good enough. Cost me £60 (or equivalent in dollars). I like it as it has removable sleeves so you can have short sleeves. Goretex is an amazing product but if you're not playing in very very wet conditions i dont think you need to spend so much on a jacket.

I bought a new adidas goretex jacket off ebay for only 70 bucks. Had some random corporate logo printed on it from something but it wasn't all that noticeable so I jumped on the deal.

I have owned several nice Sunice products so will look at them. On a similar topic, while searching for rain gear, there is a video of 2015 rain gear from the Morning Drive show, in which they show a hat with a large rear facing brim but I can't hear or see the brand. Seems to be perfect to keep water from dripping down your back. Has anyone seen this product?

Galvin Green Aura

I always try to find rainwear on sale although Galvin Green is tougher to find.

ProQuip USA (Euro) usually has sales, as does Cross Golf (Swedish).

I found Nike HyperAdapt on sale last year and have a jacket and pants.

This site has sales every week:

TGW usually has 20% off rainwear in Nov-Dec.

Being from a very wet location I have done a detailed study of rain jackets and my conclusion is that it depends on your needs.

Since you live in Florida are are at an advantage. You can get away with a light rain jacket. Light ones are cheaper. For this you can go with Nike Hyper Adapt which I see going on sale at some places or Adidas, both having fairly affordable light weight options. If you want go a bit spendier you can get a FootJoy XP which are the best for not getting wet. Calvin Green as mentioned here is the top of the line and wicked expensive. I cannot afford any jackets made by them, but the caddies at Bandon Dunes swear by Galvin Green. They say there is nothing better.

In Portland when it rains it is cold. So typical fall, spring rain is 50 degrees windy and raining sideways. So I need winter weather rain jackets and the pricing is high. I have a FootJoy XP, which is bulletproof, an Adidas Gore-Tex and a Nike Storm-Fit. (It rains a lot here so you need good rain gear). I also have a FootJoy Hydrolite which is a good rain jacket in terms of keeping water out but does not breathe very well.

A golfer from Portland will know all about rainwear - good stuff.

The OP might look for GoreTex PacLite... the Galvin Green version is $340. I would probably layer in the cold with PacLite - thermal/compression base, shirt, sweater,  PacLite.

In Galvin Green, most need to go a size up -- XL is 42-44 chest, which is USA Large. Check eBay.

OP might find a Sun Mountain Rainflex Half Sleeve on the cheap on eBay or elsewhere -- I've seen them around.

I have had excellent results with Sunice rain jackets. My experience is their FlexVent jackets (made from iVent material) work best in warm weather since they breathe better than Goretex and protect just as well. The Goretex works better in cooler temperatures as it seems to have a little better insulation value. Both have ratings of 20,000 for both water repellency and breathability.  I've got mine from TGW and always paid less than $150.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
