Combining Playing Partner's Skill Sets Into a Super-Golfer

I've often thought about what if I could take the skill sets of all three of my playing partners (on any give round they change up), and merge them into one golfer.

For instance, just last week, there was one guy who could drive the ball 260 yards consistently and mostly on the fairways, but needed a hybrid for a 150 yard approach shot? One of the other partners was terrible off the tee for some reason and many times needed to tee off with a long iron, but once on the fairway you couldn't stop him from getting near or on the green. The third in this particular round was really good at chipping and putting. No exaggeration, but this golfer could put a PGA tour pro to shame with the long putts made.

So, I was kind of mentally picturing a hybrid golfer with all the skills of these three. I've done this mental experiment numerous times over the past year or so, and it was becoming pretty clear to me why people play scrambles or brambles.

I've been partnered numerous times with people like this. Random people, not just scramble partners.

Anyone else had similar experiences, it so it would be fun to hear them?

I've played with some guys who seemingly get up and down from everywhere.  Of course, they rarely hit a green and aren't even always getting up and down for par anyway.

 

I played with someone a few months ago who hit exactly three GIR -- all three of our course's par-5s in two.  He missed the other fifteen greens, often with shorter approach shots.

 

These weren't the same group, but it'd be fun to combine those two.

Agree, a combo of these two players could be very interesting.

I actually wonder if they are in the same group, what they are thinking? That would also be interesting.

On the range, I hear all kinds of banter, but not really on the course during play.

I see this quite a bit. One can drive but can't putt. One might have a tremendous short game that allows him to score well inspite of his awful short game. All kinds of golfers with different skill levels within their own games. 

My oldest grand son can drive the ball 300 yards consistantly with playable accuracy. Thats it. He cant putt, and has no approach game. I am not a good driver of the ball. We once played a best ball game by ourselves. Shot a 70. My hope was to show him the importance of having a more complete game.  "Too much work" he says.

You can probably just make a good golfer by combining all your own good skill days together into one. @RandallT was kind enough to do some strokes gained analysis of my last 10 rounds and if you put my best driving, approach, short game, and putting days together into one round, I'd shoot a 74 or something. I wouldn't be surprised if the results were similar for other golfers, as well.

But, this isn't as fun as speculating about others you play with. . .it's way more fun to put together random people and making a Frankengolfer. . .

I'm just saying, unless you know those people, maybe you happened to catch them on a career day in particular skill. Then when you go put your Frankengolfer together, you're totally going to be pissed that the guy can't hit the broadside of a barn

It's simply the fun of speculating, not the actual process of creating a good golfer.

So, have you been partnered with people who made you think "If only. . ." ?

@Lihu we change titles on a semi-regular basis for various reasons. I didn't see the original title but short and specific is usually best. If you have suggestions for another title, please feel free to share with us (as @billchao said). PM us, let's not discuss this stuff in the thread.
