You'll likely have to set the DVR's for this 10:40pm ET tee time, but it will be well worth it. Great early test for Fowler as he is poised for a break out season. Can't wait!

Wonder what their appearance fees were, $2MM?  Either way, I'm looking forward to it.

I'll be staying up a little late tomorrow night for this!  Kudos to the European Tour for putting these three stars together the first couple days.  I'm interested to see how Rory plays, and I fully expect Rickie and Jordan to play pretty well coming off great play at Kapalua.  It's going to be a great 2016 season!

Who do you think will be feeling the most pressure? I would say Rickie since most think he could be part of the new "Big 3". If he flops, I feel like that would be a major set back for him mentally. It will be important for him to not try and do too much too early... We'll see

I think Jason Day would take issue with that. Especially with Rickie still working on getting his first major, no?

Rickie is still in tier 2 as far as rankings go. Spieth, Day, and McIlroy are a level above as things stand right now.  If Fowler wins a major in 2016, he'll definitely be worthy of a spot in the "Big Whatever."

McIlroy is feeling the most pressure right now.  He was the sure-fire top golfer in the world after winning Match Play and at Quail Hollow last year.  He got the injury shortly thereafter, and Spieth and Day went on an absolute tear to end the season.  He's going to be very ready to prove he's just as good or better than the rest to start this season.

That being said, it's probably not too tough being any of these guys.  They're all pretty decent at this golf thing.  Haha

He definitely would. And rightfully so. Rickie is not there yet. Some think Fowler could be on the verge, which is what makes this pairing so interesting for Fowler, even if it is an early season tournament. If Fowler performs well, you will see the 'Fowler train' begin to pick up serious momentum...

Thrash13, good point regarding McIlroy.

My DVR listing shows it broadcasting from 10:30 p.m. ET through 8:00 a.m. the next morning.  Anyone know which hours are the "live" broadcast and when they switch over to the re-broadcast?

So the upside to being out here on the west coast is that I'll get to watch the marquee groups entire first round without losing any sleep over it.  The downside is that everything else worth watching is all while I need to be sleeping. :(

Whenever I'm out there it weirds me out that games start while I'm still at work.  Don't think I could get used to that.

And the opposite for me.  The first time I went to New York and had to wait until 1pm to watch the first football games, I'm like ... what the heck do you people do all morning?!?!?! :-P

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
