I'm new to this forum and golf. I've been playing golf for roughly a year now and just started taking the game seriously mainly because I've been an athlete my whole life and do not like sucking at anything sports related.  However, I'm finding out the golf will take time and patience and I'm ok with that. I've always been a fast leaner when it comes to sports but after a year of pretty consistently playing i'm barley breaking 100. I'm really hoping to shoot in the low 90's or high 80's by the end of this year.

Welcome @BreakingBadly to TST.

Golf is a game which requires good eye hand co-ordination along with minimal athletic skills for most to accelerate developmental skills to become better.

Athleticism talents will also usually enhance the ability to make quicker improvements with proper instruction.

Many travel down the road of self-instruction as they learn mechanics, but making improvements with lessons is usually quicker.

Golf is a great game and journey which many play for a long time. It has great benefits both personnel and social.

Always remember, golf is a fun game and it is a hard game.

Welcome to the forum from someone else who sucks at golf. The important thing however is to enjoy and have fun playing no matter how good or bad you play. When you make bad shots don't get angry, but rather laugh at yourself. You will have good shots you can savor along the journey.

I am of the opinion that every player who is not making a living playing golf sucks at golf in their own way. Some just suck less than others when compared to the best of the best ,

I am at 9.8 and have room for improvement. I'm just lazy when it comes to golf at this point of time in my life.

I am also of the opinion of learning the easier parts of the game first. Then let those easier parts help your score while learning the  tougher shots in one's game.

Athleticism will take you a long way, but like all athletics you can only go from good to great with a lot of work/time. Keep at it and like @Patch said, focus on the easy things. Don't try and fix everything all at once, focus on one area and move on to the next after you get something down.

Just to add on to the focusing on one area before moving on... make sure that you are focusing on the right area. Identify your priority piece and focus on that. Work on the area in which you'll see the greatest benefit.

    • Okay, I'm genuinely curious about this "biodegradable leather" trend in golf. Are we talking snake oil here? I mean, golf balls, clubs... they all end up in the water eventually. Is this just greenwashing, or is there actually a real environmental benefit? And honestly, does it even perform as well as traditional leather? I don't want to sacrifice distance for the planet, you know? Anyone with real-world experience with these eco-friendly golf goods? Spill the tea!
