I was on a roll, totally nailing it.

Big drives, pure irons, managed to even draw or fade them when i wanted to....

Ready as ever for the season beginning in a couple weeks.

And suddenly, without warning: i lost (literally !!!!) 10% of swing speed! I know because i have a Trackman simulator near my home and i go there twice a week.

What on earth can change to make you lose 10% of swing speed???? My driver went from 96-97mph to 88-89!!!!

And of course the more i try to regain it, the slower i swing....

Help please, any help is welcome. quite depressing after having put so many hours into it.

Thanks

Did you ever figure out what happened last year during your Florida trip?  You seem to have had the same problem before.

You are likely "trying too hard" and as a result releasing the wrists early.  This gives you your 96-97 mph during your downswing but causes speed loss at impact.  Think about maintaining your wrist angle as you pull the handle down and then snap the wrists through the hitting zone.

last summer i picked up some bad habits....and then i changed everything again! i'm just so tired to have to start over and over and over like i'm a beginner.

it's never-ending! I'll try a few drills and let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the responses!

I picked up a lot of speed by making sure I stayed loose and let centrifugal force do the lag for me. You can't really force it.

It's hard to say.  I have 2 questions...................

1.  How old are you?

2.  Have you put on weight?

Swing speed fluctuates.  10% swing speed change?   I get that in a single range session.   Given your HI of 6, I think you will get your swing speed back just as quick as you lost it.

I'm blaming the colder weather. It messes with my tempo. Now that the heaters are off at the driving range and the temperatures still aren't over 60 it's rough. I'll be focusing on strength training and cardio for the next few weeks.

If it was in the 50s, I'd be wearing shorts at the range! :-P Good idea on strength and cardio. I also recommend golf specific core exercises.

Some crazy people are. I can't stand cold weather. It messes with my tempo.

Lexi Thompson was kind enough to share part of her workout on her Facebook page.... I'm attempting to do some of those. It'll take a while before I can do them up to speed.

I'm no expert but thought I'd chime in here solely on the fact that my instructor talked with me on this last week, and he's the head coach (mens) for our city's largest university.

As other have said, my instructor says a lot of people try to increase their swing speed by muscling up and swinging harder. It has almost the opposite effect. Loose arms and a fluid, loose, good release will put the most speed at the point of impact. I've been working with myself on this EXACT thing. I was a 100-102 mph SS being "loosey goosey" and 88-90 mph by my old method of stiff left arm and "muscling" at impact rather than a true release.

been practicing almost every day since i started this thread.

tried literally everything. not one ball above 91 mph on TM.

there are mysteries in life, like who shot Kennedy and the UFOs in Rockwell, and then there is this.

it's like it disapeared from one day to the next.

i did "bang" my pinky toe of my right foot against my bedside table and it does hurt a TINY bit still but i can't believe something so small could have that effect.

it's totally demoralizing, and i tried everything i can, so i guess i've reached a point where i'll stop for a few months and focus on something else.

might be the best way of coming back with a bit of taste for the game.

thanks for your responses though

91mph ball speed with TM???

That sounds like an injury or something? Stop hitting balls and see a PT or doctor.

EDIT: Guessing you meant SS, so post a video or something with a face on shot of your swing. It sounds a lot like early release as other posters mentioned?

of course it's club speed.

what depresses me is that i actually feel stronger now than i did a few months ago.

it HAS to be technical and maybe something happened that i don't do the same sequence as i used to.

It's such a strange feeling to be able to hit it comfortably 260 one week and the next not know if you're going to break 200...

Any advice still more than welcome. Next step shrink and hypnosis.
