They're facts. I suspect I have them right,

But even if it were just my opinion, that's almost the entire point of a discussion forum.

I suspect you have them wrong as my perception and information from over here is different.

I explained about the tours.

However, suspicions are not complete knowledge. We are only discussing opinions

I don't think so. I've played courses in the UK. Didn't see a bunch of stones in any of them.

No, I'm discussing opinions, or trying to. You… not so much.

You didn't "explain about the tours." You explained almost nothing. Most major tours allow for relief for an embedded ball through the green. It supports my opinion (and the opinion of the USGA, from all I've heard) that this should be the Rule and not just a Local Rule.

And, there are many things I'm comfortable saying I "know" here too.

So… why not make relief for an embedded ball through the green the Rule, with restricting it to only "closely mown areas" the Local Rule for the seemingly very small subset of courses or organizations that want to implement that?

I'm not saying that I know it. I'm saying it seems quite likely true. Virtually every competition in which I've played - or heard about in regards to this rule - employs the Local Rule.

Just a couple of observations.  There are over 3000 golf courses in the UK.  Iacas has played some of them and found no stones in any bunkers.  I have played some of them and encountered stones in most of the bunkers.  In terms of sound argument neither his unquantified experience nor mine has any validity.

Where there have been stones in bunkers and the LR in place, I’ve never as a player or referee found any difficulty in distinguishing  stones from grains of sand!

They have some validity. Just not a bunch. Mine or yours.

This thread topic is really about embedded ball rule. I really don't care about stones in bunkers, and think you'd have a tougher time convincing people of making the Local Rule the actual Rule for those… I think it's a much easier call with embedded ball through the green.

    • I’m thinking maybe Jason Day read my post. He’s sitting a -3 two off Rory and Burns.
    • Is it only the weekend broadcasts that have a low commercial count?  I feel like it has been a long while since I last watched a Thursday of the Masters, so maybe my recollection is off.  I feel today has a lot more than four minutes per hour of commercials, and far fewer of the fun stories they tell during the Sunday broadcast.
    • I mean, I do slide my hips like 7 inches towards the target before impact. PGA Tour average is like 3 inches. I’m not Scottie Scheffler who can get away with it. 🤣 He slides a ton.  For me, I have to feel like I basically just turn. Though, I’m probably over exaggerating a bit with that one video because I’m really trying to push off with the left leg which sends the hip backwards. Ideally, I would be able to get my weight over to the outside of my left foot at impact and into the finish. It’s probably OK that I can slide about 7 inches as long as it’s like only three by impact.
    • Day 32 (9 Apr 26) - Grandson is on spring break- puts in to play 9 at our home course.  Used it to work on top of horizon target point for drives and approaches…i.e. pick landing zone (fairway, green) , an intermediate target point and finally what standout feature do I want to hit “over” on the horizon (tall pine, home top, flag pole).    Better l-r dispersion w/5 of 7 drives in the short grass.  Nice little addition to the pre-shot routine.
    • I managed to get the full afternoon to watch (Pacific time, so the ESPN broadcast began at noon).  I just saw the first shot I feel like commenting on:  Adam Scott's tee shot on #16 was really good, especially after having what might be the worst kind of Maltese Falcon on #15.    I didn't used to like him, but the past few years he's grown on me quite a bit.
