My 50-state-50-capital-city (50/50) golf trip has officially started. The first city was Phoenix Arizona, at the Raven Golf Club. It was great to start playing golf again after a three year absence because of a rotator cup injury. I had a great time with the Bob, Daren and Tony. Bob and Daren, father and son, had their competition going on. Age won over youth. I started out with two pars and shot 44 on the front. The back was a different story. I started with two double bogeys and shot 56 for a total of 100 for the round.

Sounds interesting.  How fast do you plan on completing this extravaganza?  And can you give us an estimate of how much you expect to spend to complete it?

I plan to finish by the end of June 2016, no later than July 2016. Depends on the weather. As for total cost, I have no idea. This is a map of the original route, but the weather has made me alter it. Instead of going to Little Rock, I'm in Dallas. I will play in Austin Friday and then go to Little Rock. Flexibility is the name of the game.

I love the concept.   I'm jealous.   Hope you have a great time.   Do you have plans for Hawaii and Alaska.   I didn't see any on the map.

There is only one public course in Augusta Maine, Western View Golf Course, so that's the one I'm playing. The courses address must be in the capital city.

How do you plan on attacking the Montpelier, VT problem?

Nice little challenge... A few of the capitals are major metropolises, Boston and Atlanta to name a couple, how did you go about solving those issues?

I simply choose public, address in the city, and a good rating rating at the time.

Would you mind keeping us posted for each round if you can? This is a very cool idea.

9 hole course, long way to go to play that course.

Too bad, because Augusta Country Club allows outside play at certain times.  Great old golf course, back 9 was designed by Donald Ross.

Are you going to play any other courses in the state or just the capital and hit the road?  Because if you have the time you should make the 25-30 minute jaunt from Augusta up to Belgrade Lakes.

Fantastic Golf Course.

Thanks for the info. I'll check  Augusta Country Club to see if I can play there.Yes the Belgrade looks great.  I'll also try to play there. The weather is the big factor on the east coast.

    • Day 8: 12/17/2024 Okay I took my new PPJ swing thought to the range today. I wasn't sure I was quite ready to do so, but I'm glad I did.  When I got it right it was good... really good. When I got it wrong it was a major fail. I hit lots of really ugly ones. But I didn't let that deter me. I stayed committed and focused on the PPJ and I avoided any temptation to go back to what I was doing before just so that I could "look" better at the range. I'm pretty excited about what I saw when I got it right.  I hit the 6 iron mostly (nearly all block work today). I also hit about 6 balls each with the PW, 8I, 5W and Driver. Those had varying degrees of success. I did crack one drive that let me feel and see what the changes will look like once I get fully trained.  Anyway, I'm going to go back to the mirror work for a couple of more days before bringing it back to the range. I do feel like if I can get this right my swing will improve a lot. So I think its worth the effort. I liked the way it looked on GEARs when I get it right, and I like the results I got at the range when I got it right. Now the goal is to work towards getting it right more often.
    • So I think it's that they can't just bend the shaft or hosel to get it to a new lie angle. They adjust that and it changes the weighting, so they have to then adjust all the weights to get it balanced again. I get the impression that it's a bit of an iterative process and they do it all in the US, so they're paying US labor costs to build it and make it work how it's supposed to. Whether you believe in the tech or not, I think that's a true statement.
    • Ah, the old EE in the backswing move. Chest going back and staying down doesn't help.
    • Extremely outward path with a very closed club face. Maybe unless you have a stupidly weak grip, like right hand way over top, I don't think the grip is necessary highly correlated to this.
