It does appear to me that the only group that is ever put on the clock is the final group.  Probably because they have the most on the line, but also because they don't have any one from behind pushing them.  But I could be totally wrong again.

It seems that way in the last few high profile instances. But I think we also don't here as much about players further down the leaderboard either.

I think that when a pro hits a drive that wayward that he might just deserve to have some uncertainty.

But I really don't have an objection to pros using rangefinders.  For those rare wayward shots it does have some potential to actually speed up play a little.  Other than that, I think the impact on pace would be pretty minimal.  My only objection would be based on the visual, it just looks "non-traditional", and as an old curmudgeon I kind of prefer traditional-looking stuff.

Agreed. IMHO, I think judging your distance is a part of the game, and while their caddies have done the research, there is still a component of judgment during the playing rounds. I think the laser rangefinders during play would virtually eliminate that aspect of the game. Just my 2 cents

I voted no as I like watching the caddie pace it off and then they consult the book and pick clubs.

IMO, judging distance is not part of the game, if that were the case, caddies wouldn't be allowed to use laser rangefinders and chart out the entire course during practice rounds.

Having exact distance is not even half the challenge for the pros, it's factoring wind, slope, the shot they want to hit into the hole, pin placement and green contours, etc.  My goal is to land in the center of the green, pros have much higher expectations for their approach shots.

it's ok to disagree - but it think we all know that skill of proper club selection in any given situation(which is based on a number of things to include, but is not limited to, accurately judging distance from target) is a very important part of scoring. If someone misjudged by a club length 5-6 times per round, that may make a big difference in GIR/nGIR hit, which is one of the most important stats. That said, I stand behind my post. But I understand your reasoning and can respect it.

I agree knowing the right distance is integral to making the right shot, I just don't think pros are missing shots because they didn't estimate the distance accurately given their detailed yardage books and pacing of steps to determine their distances.

Good point - I would agree with you on that
