This may sound like a stupid question but I don't pay much attention to popular culture (well, almost any culture, for that matter),  is it a biographical musical?

Yes. It's based on/inspired by a biography of Alexander Hamilton.

That's what they want you to think! It's is really a subliminal advertisement for Hamilton Beach Kitchen appliances.

Ive seen the play a couple of times. My wife works in theatre and worked this show for the rogers theatre last season. Ive hung out with most of the original cast at some point over the last couple of years. All really nice people. Javier Munoz, The new Alexander hamilton is acutally miles better in the role than Lin was, and he even admits as much :-$

The soundtrack is indeed super catchy. The kind of stuff that just gets stuck in your head.

Finally saw it and it was phenomenal.  Paid several pretty pennies for the tickets and it was worth every one of them and more.

Nice! Must have been impossible to get tickets around Thanksgiving. Or you knew someone.

Most people go to Broadway shows not knowing any of the music beforehand, at least for the first runs. I'm guessing Hamilton is one of the exceptions. Imho, it's a vastly richer experience when you go in knowing the music, as we all know, we don't "get" a song on first listen many times. There are the obvious crowdpleasers that are catchy immediately, but those songs you get after 3-4 listens, they're the ones that really grab you.

I hope Hamilton helps to change the negative disposition towards Broadway shows. Operas can be too stiff. This is an art form that the US is a master of. It is hard enough to be talented enough to sing, dance or act. To be able to do all three competently is really something. I have a feeling La La Land is going to be really big, at least I hope.

Yes, totally agree.  Part of me worried when I first started listening to this soundtrack many months ago that I would "spoil" the show for myself - in fact, the complete opposite was the case.  It goes by so fast and throws so much at you that I fear anybody going in blind would miss 75% of what is happening.  For anybody on the fence about immersing themselves ahead of time, I'd most definitely say go for it.

When we get a chance, we'll be seeing the la show as well, and bringing the kids. :)
