I'm pulling for Lydia but that's a scary bunch of names ahead of her.  I tuned in to see that she was -2 and a few back but then I checked the leader board . .gulp . . .she's going to have to get on it tomorrow to have a chance.

They mostly want to mention her name, but 3 shots isn't a chasm for the first round.

It's actually 4 . .and I'd agree with you except the top of the leader board is absolutely stacked - there are so many *great* players ahead of her . . it's going to become a chasm if tomorrow is not a much better day for Lydia.

Hey, those are my headcovers too! They look like Jan Craig headcovers, red, white and blue. I got them in US flag colors a long time ago. Don't mean to be a shill but her headcovers last forever, made in the US of A.Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 7.19.43 PM.png

I heard one of the golf channel commentators mention strokes gained ranks / stats for the women at Rio. Has SG been part of the broadcasts of the men and women's events? If so, how are they collecting the data?

The final group tomorrow will feature the best player in the world right now, versus the best player in women's golf over the last decade, versus a player who has never won a top-level tournament before.

In my UnderArmour Links stand bag...

Driver: '07 Burner 9.5° (stiff graphite shaft)
Woods: SasQuatch 17° 4-Wood (stiff graphite shaft)

So the players get a medal. What do the caddies get? I bet cash would be a bit of a let down in this case. Hopefully the players will have a jeweler put something together for them.

The Olympic experience would be plenty enough for me. I'm sure the IOC put something together.

Nothing. Why should they? Otherwise the trainers, the swing instructors, the support staff, etc. for ALL athletes would get stuff.

The only difference is the caddy is giving real time advise. For some players I'm sure he just carries the bag, for others he plays an integral part of the players success. The team sport coaches do get a team medal.

I assume the player is paying travel etc expenses to have their caddy on the bag.

If you were there and won, what would you do?

So do other coaches (real-time advice).

The caddie does less to help the player than lots of other people that support Olympic athletes. Trainers. Instructors. Doctors. Psychologists. Etc.

Depends on who my caddie was. I might just say "Thanks. See you in two weeks." I pay him, after all.

I know - how great is that?

This has been an amazing tournament so far - one of the most enjoyable to watch, men's included, of the season for me.

Or the third. It seems she's very patient for waiting until she's 'dialed in'. By not trying to 'force' a score she probably doesn't over-correct on her strokes much helping her overall consistency.

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
