9/03 - grip, stance, slow take away, low point control, weight shift.

After doing this for approx 2 months, I do feel things are improving, but I'm amazed at how much I have to remind myself about these things while actually playing. You would think it'd be 2nd nature by now!

9/3 - slowing down takeaway / tempo

Doing this in the mirror for 5 minutes will hopefully help me put it to use on the course.  If I don't concentrate on it, my backswing is very fast and my hands are too far forward at impact.

Extra credit today. Went to the driving range and hit some balls. Different feeling. Irons were nice and crisp and very straight. Driver was blech.

Had time to do some work in the mirror when I couldn't sleep this morning, and putting in the living room. Then spent all day with the PSB team (they won first and second place).

9/4 - off to the range this morning.  Going to use the time to work on the mirror work I have been doing the past few days.  Correct spine tilt, head down (which is also becoming a problem) , and keeping my eye on the ball (for some reason I have been looking a little past the front of the ball on my downswing and just noticed this on my last round)

Playing 18 holes at Lake View later today. Looking forward to it. Haven't played at LV this year.

9/4/2016:

Unfortunately, I'll have to bow out of the running for this month's practice award. No power for 2 1/2 days, which didn't stop me at first.. what else was there to do?... but then our water supply line burst on Friday night so I spent Saturday digging up my walkway and flowerbed and Sunday filling it back in.

I did manage to get some putting practice in the last two days and will still follow along with the practice thread daily.

9/5 - played at The Quarry at Crystal Springs.  I shot a 78 and was striking the ball very well.  2 over on the back when I dialed in my game a bit more. I had a couple 3 putts and wasn't spectacular on the greens.  I used the last few practices I have done on this challenge to help keep my setup in my head and it helped quite a bit.  Next practice sessions will be putting

More slow swings. Hoped to get out for a round today, but took a nap after we got home from the beach.

September 5

  • Practiced some putting. Was getting a tad out to the toes.
  • Took some swings with the driver. Focused on the right elbow and a good pivot.

Playing 36 tomorrow.

9/5/16:

I forgot to post yesterday. Damn. I played 36 holes on Sunday... I was so spent I fell asleep while watching a movie.

Today I worked on my irons. I missed every single iron shot I hit to the right (I'm using my back-up set that has graphite extra stiff shafts with a high kick point and frankly I am not used to them yet). Thinking about going back to between perpendicular and three-quarters for my backswing. For whatever reason I make more solid contact doing that.

9/06 - grip, stance, take away, low point control, weight shift.

I noticed that I'm really not getting my left arm higher than parallel (to the ground) at peak...

9/6 - about 10 minutes of putting practice before my workout.  Concentrating on setup just like I would with my irons.  Keep shoulders back, elbows tighter and trying to take out the hand movement

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
