9/23 - played Missouri Bluffs this morning.  Shot 41/42-83.  Drove the ball okay but irons and wedges did me right.  Struggled on the green.  Thinking about picking up some sort of putting mat for the basement

10 minutes of slo-mo swings, normal focus (steady head, good turn/pivot) and checking for a flat wrist at the top. Then 20 or so shots using a half-backswing.

9/24 - after yesterdays round of poor putting (even though I only had one 3 putt on a huge sloped par 3), I realized I am leaving the most strokes out there on the green, not around or approaching the green.  I spent a lot of time this morning researching correct "tips" on putting.  I am going to spend some major time improving my putting stroke and working on its consistency.  All that said, I did putting drills in my basement for about 20 minutes

Played a round with @David in FL today. Played horribly other that holes 4-9, but certainly enjoyed it. I even hit a ball out of the water for the first time ever.

Played 18 today. Shot 91 (45/46). Normal "steady head" and "no sway" thoughts, but tried to stay simple and mainly focus on a shorter backswing (3/4 or so -- I'm sure I was still over-swinging though ;-)). Much better results with the driver, irons went well also. Played smart and only hit my 3-wood twice, when I had nice, flat lies and plenty of room to miss...both shots were very nice and resulted in par/bogey on two tough holes (#1/#7). Also played a bit more aggressively (and took more time) with my chips and finally put a few within easy one-putt distance. Putting still needs a lot of work, though.

9/24 - Cleaned out a friend's Aunt's house. While tossing each of the 60 or so bags of trash on to a pile in the garage, I focused on a centered hip turn and getting weight forward before release.:-P

9/25 - more putting drills.  Did some research and watched some putting instructional videos and changed my grip.  Seems like it is going to help but I still need to pick up a putting mat.  I think the practice on the carpet can help with my stroke but not as much as with something a little closer to actual greens.  Our carpet is very long

Went to the range and hit some balls. I took some video to see if there has been progress. Unfortunately not. Changes are not hanging around when there is a ball in front of me.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
