Well, I'm out again this month -- a hard drive crash last weekend kept me from posting. Didn't stop me from practicing, though. Focus all week has been the same, 3-5 minutes of wall drill, paying attention to hip turn and tilt, then 15-45 minutes of slow backswings working up to an easy 3/4 swing hitting shots. Lots of chipping practice sprinkled here and there to keep practice interesting and fun.

Roamin, sorry to hear about the hard drive crash. Hope there were no casualties (the photos, oh shit!) good that you kept up the routine!

20 min alternating Sklz, driver and at the end 7 iron

the translation to the driver is getting better and better. Can't wait try it hitting golf balls

7 iron complete miss. Timing is off, sequencing doesn't generate inside-out swing with whoosh finish.

Back to Clay Ballard for ideas.

The practice swings raise my awareness of how I swing, but without an instructor I seek a model to emulate.

Played 18 today. A mysterious draw has entered my game. Drives were good to great, iron contact still good but had more bad shots than usual. Chipping and putting were great all day, got up and down for par twice and had zero three-putts.

On this note...I've been doing a pretty good job at focusing only on my priority piece (wall drill/hip turn/no sway backwards) for the past month or so, and just in the past week, out of no where, I've started hitting a draw. I can feel a difference in my swing, especially during slow-mo work, but I'm not quite sure about it because I don't feel like I'm doing anything differently (on purpose, at least). Doing my best to ignore it and continuing to follow my normal practice routine.

11/13 - grip, stance/address with 6i. Focused on keeping right elbow anterior to the shirt seam during the backswing while making an inside-out path.

20 min. of chipping/pitching practice in the yard this morning. I have 3 targets at different distances that I alternate between. Might hit the driving range later if I can talk one of my kids into going with me.

Thanks, Mico. No worries, still have everything. I must admit, I'm a nerd at heart so a week full of disk recovery/imaging and OS installs has actually (or sadly ;-)) been fun...takes me back.

11/13: Played 18 at Olde Stonewall earlier today. Was relatively warm for this time of year, so that was good.

Finally took the practice swing to the course. Not pretty, lots of slicing and not much inside-out as I had trained.

Drive was more predictable albeit with slice than anything else. Shot a 93, 8 over my handicap.

Only upside was more overall core strength.

Back to practice swings tomorrow...

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
