I don't think FIFA actually sees it as offensive. That would indicate that FIFA is acquiescing to some sort of perceived societal pressure. FIFA doesn't do that. FIFA controls. Their logic for shit like this is like the NFL: you can't do it because we said so.

It's speculation either way, but the world seems to be going that way. There is an official (insert whatever item) of the NFL because that company gave the NFL a lot of money to become the official whatever of the NFL. It's mostly about money.

I can't understand how the governing body of any sport could object to something like that.  Just the opposite.  I would think such an observance would help unify, not divide.

You would, as would I, but this sort of thing is common here as well, (mostly in the NFL - and I think @jamo nailed it)

Oh, and thanks @RussUK for explaining it.  I watched a couple of matches this weekend and noticed the logo and wondered what it was. :)  Here are a couple of pics for those wondering:

Great article. This is how it should be. If you choose to display the poppy or not it should be down to the individual, not some person in an organisation who may not even fully understand the sentiment/meaning of the poppy.

One thing i will say to James McCleans comments about it being a symbol for "Britains" wars, thats incorrect. The poppy is a symbol for Brutain and the comonwealth plus all those who fought along side us in conflicts from 1914 to the present day (incuding soldiers from Ireland)

Canadians also wear the poppy. Actually, that was my first exposure to it was watching Hockey Night In Canada.

    • Day 563, May 18, 2024 Was going to play today, but we waited on the first tee for 15 minutes, watched three of the four players lose their golf balls, and went to the range (with @DrizZzY). I was hitting some hybrids 250 on the range, comfortably, repeatably.
    • Give it time. if Hatton misses another shot he might launch his club & hit someone .
    • That’s a pre Sunday leaderboard I can like.
    • The best was Tommy Gainey in the prostitution sting a few years ago. Now that was funny.
    • Played Musgrove Mill GC today. 72.3/155. First round in 4 weeks and shot 44-39. 2 triple bogies on the front and horseshoed 4 putts today. Overall, 10 fairways, 8 GIR and 31 putts.  Set a goal today to par the 3 toughest holes (4, 18 and 9) and birdie 10 or 12 (which I have never birdied). Parred 4, 9 and birdied 10. Crushed my drive on 18 and had 139 left, but in casual water. Dropped back a little ways and took an extra club. Hit my 8-iron well but it came up short. Bunker shot from wet sand left me an 18’ for my goal. Read the break well but perhaps an inch too much break, and a touch heavy on the speed. Ball circled the hole 270* and tapped in for a bogey. Handicap dropped 0.1.
