Hearing Callaway is coming out with a new ball for 2017. I think its a Chrome Soft 2017. Does anyone know if they are changing it or just changing the date ? Im happy with that ball now , i think its the best ball ever actually. I hope they dont ruin it by trying to make it better

I think one of the models they are coming out with is a Callaway Chrome Soft X which is probably a little firmer ball. I guess sort or like the Pro V1 and the Pro v1X. Not sure what else they are doing with the ball. I know the last half dozen years or so when I find a ball I like that company comes out with a new and improved version which does not suit my swing. Hope this is not the same thing with Callaway with the Chrome Soft.

I've heard rumors of a firmer version of the CS to go with the current CS.

The Chrome Soft 16' ball has honestly changed my game ! When the Chrome Soft 15' came out i liked it but the new dual core 16' ball is even better. Im not long off the tee anyway so the "softer " feel doesnt affect me there. In fact, it springs off my driver and might give me an extra few yards. The 16' ball is so good from 130 and in that i have that "feel"thing. Its hard for me to describe but a ProV1x feels like a rock to me now. If Callaway carries both balls like Titleist does with the 1 and 1x , then thats great. If they were to stop making this current Chrome Soft I would be in trouble. Thats how much its in my head now. I just hope Phil and Henrik and all the Callaway staffers vote to keep it. Watch, after all this worrying about the "X" ball coming I will like it .HAHA. Im just a "GOLFHEAD" and dont like fixing what isnt broken. Hit Em Good Yall !

Agree w other posters. I hope the ball doesn't change too much. Loved the '16 version and my 130 and in game changed so much and I hit a lot more quality shots when I switched to the chrome soft.

Played with them yesterday. Felt firmer, which I liked. The regular CS felt too soft to me. I thought the CS felt weird putting. The x felt solid, and made a nice click. I compared it with a Bridgestone RX, and a Snell MTB. Felt more like the Bridgestone. A bit firmer than the MTB. I thought it went similar distances as the other balls. I liked it much better than the CS just based on the feel.

I was using the Supersoft and finally bought the Chrome Soft. The CS goes farther than the SS for me. Now I have all these CS saved up for when I run out of the SS but don't want to play the SS knowing I can be getting more distance by using the other ball. Maybe I'll put them in my shag bag. Love the CS, great distance and good feel to boot.

    • Starting over - missed posting yesterday and it had been less than 28 days since last off day….today was tempo drill day.  Worked on takeaway and moving smoothly into weight shift.
    • I know it is probably dependent on a lot of factors, but how windy does it have to be out before you need to start guessing on how much it would influence the break of your putt?  When I played at Bandon, it was like 25-30 mph winds. The caddies talked about the wind negating break. The only time I had it visually influence my putt was on hole 18 at Bandon Dunes. My missed my putt on the high side of a pretty severe breaking putt. The slope around the hole was in the 2-3 degree range. As the ball was about to come to a stop, the wind gusted and pushed the ball half a rotation into the cup.  The rest of the week I thought it had no influence at all. I was thinking, is it just over thinking to try to account for the wind?
    • Day 310 - 2025-08-06 Went downtown in the late afternoon and got nearly two hours of work in. Not a ton of breaks. Was blasting the TS at the end, from a HomePod and two TVs. 😄
    • I watched this video of his last night: I don't hate him like @boogielicious apparently does and thought this was a pretty good premise so I gave it a shot.  Not the worst thing in the world and I especially liked the premise.  He's got a lot of air to fill by himself, which he isn't great at, but in doing so, you get some decent insight into how his brain works while setting up shots/putts.
    • So driver is longer than all the other clubs and gear effect plays a bigger part with driver than anything else. If you're hitting it out of the heel it could slice even if you have the face square. Could try some foot spray or impact tape and check that. Other thing is if the shaft is different in how it flexes or how flexible it is it could be affecting your swing somewhat. Driver also has the straightest face, so while with a 4 iron it might fade, with driver that can wind up being a slice with the same face angle at impact.
