I hit some pretty good shots this weekend (also some pretty lousy ones) but this one probably is the best:

It was the one that sealed the match.

I hit the best shot @GolfLug will see this year on #6 at Belmont on April 8.

Had 120 or so, but was blocked out by low trees. Hit a low punch cut 5I that bounded up to the front left side of the green and continued to use the ground contours to end up at about 15 feet.

Divine. 😉

Did you putt with your wedge? 😜

Lol. It curved a good 20 yards before landing. From that angle it seemed unlikely it get anywhere close to the green, let alone on it. Wish I had recorded it.

I had a couple that stuck out from my round yesterday.

First one was my 3rd shot into a par 5. Had about 30yds left from pretty thick rough but a fine lie. Pin was tucked back left and there was a severe knoll/knob in the green so the only way to get the shot within like 20-30 feet was to carry the knob completely. Opened the face of my 58 and took pretty close to a full swing and carried it the entire way, bounced about a foot short of the hole and rolled to a couple inches for a tap in birdie.

Probably the highest short game shot I've ever hit in a round.

image.png

Second one was the 18th hole, After a 295yd drive I had 115 to a tucked front flag, wind was hard off the right, around 20-25mph. No wind I'm likely hitting a full 54 degree, but with the wind I decided to hit my 50 degree. I have a feel for a 120 shot with my 50 degree but not a 115 shot so I just opened my stance a bit and played a "cut" 120 shot to hold it against the wind and figured that'd take a couple yards off. I executed it exactly as I intended, started right at the flag and could see it cutting but getting held by the wind and it dropped down right next to the hole leaving myself 3 feet for birdie. The clubhouse and porch overlook the 18th and that shot got multiple claps and whistles from people who were out on the patio watching. Made the putt too for a nice way to end the round.

Yesterday, I hit a straight 5-wood on #15 at Musgrove Mill which went into a fairway bunker. This is about a 75* left dogleg and I was blocked out by trees and the pin was in the back right. Called my shot and pretended to be Tiger 🐅 and hit a high fade around the trees and the ball finished right of the pin. Drained an 18’ downhill putt for a birdie!

Got a rare birdie on #18 Par 5.  Drive was good and left me in range of the green.  I was @ 210 from the center and needed @ 180 to clear a hazard area.  Green had bunkers lest, right and on back.

had been struggling and most shots were short so I took the 225 club figuring back of green hit well.

i did hit it well, @ 229 per SS and dead on—kind at the pin.  Ended up @ 1 foot off the back in short rough and lucky for me it was a back pin placement.  Chipped about 15 feet leaving a 3 feet putt for par which I sunk.

Best drive I've ever hit:

I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.

First ever holed out greenside bunker shot! It's crazy it took this long to finally get one during a round, but the cold streak is officially over. Hole 6 on the Palmer Course at PGAN. I hit my driver like 225 into a really stiff wind, then worm burned a hybrid into the bunker. I was about I dunno, 40-45 feet away. Birdie! Let's go!

New 3W is pretty good B-)

I hit a good drive actually but straight into a headwind so it left me far enough back from the trees to attempt something stupid. So naturally, with a new 3W in the bag, I wanted to see what it could do. Hit a high draw directly over the trees and couldn't see where it ended up from the fairway, but I knew I hit it well.

I doubt that's the optimal play for scoring well in the long run but it felt good to do.

New hybrid is pretty good, too ;-)

It might not even be my best shot of the week, TBH. I've hit some absolute bombs off the tee including almost driving a couple of greens on short par 4s, but BSotW is probably this one:

Blind tee shot with 290 to center of the green, wind down and off the left, I aimed at the right edge of the greenside bunker, pushed it a few yards and ended up flying the green and ended up going 325 total. The trees I took it over are definitely tall enough to be a factor if you hit one thin at all.

Had a tough angle and downslope to land on, hit a good pitch to 15 feet and lipped the putt out. Easy par.

I think this is a fun hole, so many different ways to play it.

Too much speed training. What you need is a longer hole, like this one ;-)

Spooky #15.png

That's the closest I ever got to hitting this green.

And yet we both made par.

Maybe drive for dough isn't accurate after all

Definitely had some helping wind on mind, it was blowing 15-20mph all day.

Yours looks like a fun hole too. Looks like a couple different ways it can be played.

Absolutely. If my skills were reversed and I was a better putter than driver of the ball, I would have made that 8-footer.

For double bogey ;-)

Mine is completely blind because it goes downhill starting basically right at the corner of the dogleg with the fairway sloping left to right. I know the line to take from experience, but just to give you an idea how it sets up, I hit directly over the two trees that the white line on my screenshot passes over, with a draw. I'm pretty sure my ball landed on the left side of the fairway.

The safe way is to just hit it 220 to the corner and leave yourself just under 150 into a pretty large green, but there's very little reason not to be aggressive on this hole.

A flushed towering 152 yard 8-iron that never left the pin to a foot and a half on the 17th hole after a solid drive. The ensuing birdie putt completed our two man team match claw back to even after being four down through 10.

Tied 18th and the match but felt like a win.

Playing Cog Hill #2 yesterday with @cedrictheo and @NatalieB… we get to the par-three 7th, a 185-yard (or 145-yard) par three. There's a St. Judge Million Dollar Shot challenge on the hole if you choose to participate. The rules:

  • $20 entry
  • Hit the green, get your $20 back.
  • Hit it to ≤ 10 feet, get $50 back.
  • Hit it to ≤ 3 feet, get $100 back.
  • Hit it in the hole, get $10,000 back. (No, I don't know where the "million dollar" bit comes from).

We all decline, though in hindsight I wish I had just given him $20 for our group and said "keep it, please."

I step up… and hit it to 30". @cedrictheo steps up… hits it to about 40". @NatalieB steps up… and we both tell her how bad she sucks, how terrible she is, etc. because she hits it to about nine and a half feet. 😄

If we had all entered we'd have won between $110 and $140. Ha ha. (I'm still glad we didn't as that would have been TAKING money from charity.)

Anyway, three really good shots on a tough hole.

The guy running the challenge must have thought we were nuts. He said "Man, you guys really should have entered!" 😄
