Assuming this indentation is from repeated strikes? Wish I could hit the sweetspot frequently enough to do that.

If hitting the sweet spot all the time time does that, my clubs will last for years

I'm doubting that just hitting golf balls caused that.

Correct. That club also contacted the turf and sand. ;-)

A forged club will eventually cave in the face on the sweet spot. I had a Callaway wedge for 5 years and there was noticeable dip in the center of the club face. Not as dramatic as the pic above, but it does happen.

That is exactly what that is from.  That wedge has hit a lot of balls...too many actually.  It should have been replaced before it got this bad, and it might even be illegal at this point if the face is dished out.  It's too far gone to re-groove, and in this condition it won't have optimum performance.

Good players hit the ball in the same spot every time, and that's what happens when you practice a lot.  Vijay goes through several sand wedges in a season because of how much he practices.  This is the 8 iron of a pretty good player:

I'm thinking fake, photoshopped.

I used to manage a retail shop that did a lot of "buy, sell, trade" club business, and we also specialized in club repair, so I've seen the worst of the worst.  This looks genuine to me.  There is no way to artificially create that type of wear pattern, and I don't think the photo has been altered.  I think it's legit.

With a lot of that modern irons going to a hollow cavity design and thinner face, I can definitely see this happening.  I recall seeing a guy on tour basically putting a hole in his 3i from a ball strike... can't remember his name, but it was within the last couple years (I think he was a Wilson guy)

You know the wedge needs replaced when............

snappedWedge_zpst3gxphn9.png

This was a 56deg wedge, and it's last strike was a GIR on a full shot!!   I didn't see the ball land on the green because I was distracted by the clubhead tumbling forward down the fairway.  lol

Nut, you might have been due for a new wedge even before the shaft broke!  :-D  Pretty impressive to hit the green on a full shot when the shaft snaps though...
