My goalsfor the year are three fold but they all have the number 50.

Between April 15 and October 15.

1. Play 50 rounds

2. Driving Range Practice 50 times

3. Dedicated putting/chipping session 50 times

To get me in the spirit of things I'm reading a book on Father Son Tom Morris and The Greatest Game Ever Played.

I'm going to be buying this putter because I have a hand tremor, this putter was designed for that which should help my game astronomically.

Last year I also started dialing in my wedge game by buying a Cleveland 52 56 and 60 degree wedge.  If you have never used a 60 degree wedge you have to try it .  It has changed my short game incredibly.

I also have a good teacher to go to so here's hoping for a great season.   Join me me on my quest for 50.

Don't just work on quantity, work on quality too.  Or, garbage in, garbage out.  Or, don't reinforce bad habits.  In other words, get some good instruction and do what the instructor says.

I do like those goals.  They are completely under your control (as opposed to a goal like I want my HI to be less than 20 by the end of the year).

First range session, putting session and round.

I did my first practice and round last week.  Great to shake the rust off.

Played with my new biomech acculock putter.   What a difference.

First round was + 21 for 9 holes.

Curse that snow....Don't send it our way.  We had gorgeous 70s today and the golf course was amazing.

Last night of my official golf season last night.

Year ending stats:
34.7 GG HANDICAP
111.1 AVG SCORE
11% F'WAY ACCURACY
18% GIR
2.7 PUTTS PER HOLE
1% SCRAMBLING

Avg Drive 192.

Now to review:

I bought a new putter from BioMech sports that I am now just finally getting used too, but things are improving.  Established an official golf handicap of 37 (Unofficially about 33).  Played about 25 rounds and had about 20 practice sessions.  Tracked my club lengths so I know how far I hit  Played Golf in MB, BC and Onatario.  Attended the LPGA Canadian Open, watched a bunch of Tournaments on the golf channel.  Ran a Golf League and watched everyone improve over the summer.

I committed to the Single Plane Swing and bought five dvds and three training aids, plus a club fitting from Graves Golf Academy.  Had great lessons from both Darren McMillan (chipping with a hybrid, who knew) and Frank Corby.   Thanks both.

Volunteered with Golf Manitoba as a rules official and did enough hours to qualify for Level 2 once I do the exam.

Read the books: Tour Tempo, Tommy's Honour, The Greatest Game Ever Played, Moe & Me by Lorne Rubenstein, Zen Golf, The Ultimate Golf Mental Game Guide, The Art of Extraordinary Golf, Axys Golf, A Biography of Homer Kelly's Golf Machine, The Practice Manual by Adam Young, Precision Putting, and five books by Bob Rotella.  Also have watched hours and hours of video.  Listened to Podcasts by Golf Science Lab, Mindshift, Golf Performance and Fehrety

Amazing season and amazing year.  Winter now begins as a time to try and nail down the Single Plane.

You're right! Oz, I don't mean to be uncharitable here, but I think you are overwhelming yourself. You seem to be trying to listen to too many people. It's kind of like the lyric line from Otis Redding's song Dock of the Bay. "I can't do what ten people tell me to!" Sounds like you're listening to too many people.

Find one of these whose ideas have worked for you, and listen to them! And you're not stuck with them. If their ideas stop working for you, go look for someone else. Be selective. I realize you're new to this, but you have to eventually develop some level of discrimination. I wish you well with the game, and good luck.

Overwhelming myself is normal. Lol.  That much said I appreciate what you have to say and agree fully.  I'm planning on following the Moe Norman  swing.

    • All great info. Thanks for the reply.
    • Yea, it's more complicated than your high school projectile motion equations.  I am thinking it could increase under certain conditions. A gust of wind blowing in the same direction as the spin, causing more high and low pressure on the ball in a certain way that it increases the spin?  It has zero vertical velocity at its apex. So, it is all velocity caused by gravity for the vertical component.  Yea, landing angle is a big thing.  It is parabolic. Your apex is 90 yards in the air. A 30-yard elevated green is 1/3rd that height. At the apex, your vertical descent angle is zero, it should be horizontal. So, you are going from zero theta to let's say 45 degrees. Even if it was linear, let's say you're landing angle is close to 30 degrees. That is less than a driver and probably is significant.  Yea, it depends on how you hit it. Especially for downhill shots. If you hit a flighted shot, it might react more like a normal shot because of the lower launch and lower apex relative to your position. Versus a normal shot might come in at like 70 degrees, instead of 45 degrees.

    • Spin will decay slightly over time, but not by a lot. The horizontal portion of the velocity will also decay due to air resistance. The vertical component will be increasing since the ball is accelerating due to gravity (albeit that the spin is creating lift, which will counteract that some). Neither of those has much of an impact of how the ball will react. The biggest difference is the vertical land angle. The angle theta prime (not sure how to show that on here) will be shallower than theta. That means the ball will stop faster at theta than at theta prime. The other thing is because there is still a horizontal component to the velocity, it will carry less far at theta prime than at theta.  The effects of those two things work in opposite directions. Which one "wins" will depend on ground conditions, ball flight, spin, any necessary carry distances, etc. Fortunately the margins are fairly small so you can wing it with enough experience. The calculation of the carry distance change is what your range finder estimates when you have slope turned on.
    • So, I was looking at this image and wondered what the best way is to play your approach to an elevated green versus a lowered green. Is the spin and velocity profile at θ' much different than at θ? I don't know the physics of it but to my wee brain, it would seem that at θ' the spin would be higher but velocity lower. At θ the spin would seem to be lower but velocity higher since it has more time to fall from its peak where it would be zero. Even the image below is off visually since we know the arc of the ball flight isn't consistent throughout.    It's okay if you tell me I'm overthinking this. 😂
