Isn't is about time?

I'm definitely in the market for a Titleist irons upgrade. I'm still playing my very old set of 762 (2001 era) irons.

I don't like buying a set of irons or drivers in the same year that the new version are released a few months later. If, the release of new irons is going to be in 2018, I will go ahead and buy a set of the current '16 AP1 irons.

Early last year, I bought a new Titleist 716 driver and set of fairway woods. I'm very happy with them and they just happen to be the best clubs in my bag. I can hit them more consistently than my older irons. But, a few months later, the 717 driver was released. :(

I know the release of new clubs is always a corporate secret. I'm just looking for some insight from anyone.

Is Titleist going to release a new version of the 716 irons this year?

Was talking to their rep a few weeks ago and he said they do not even know yet what they are, but will find out in July.  Guessed it will be their 718 series.  Release will likely be in their normal timeframe (Sept or Oct).  Hard to think they will be much different than the 716 lineup.  A little different look and claims of better performance.  Likely will update their hybrid lineup as well.  716 lineup should not see any additions as the 718 cycle approaches.

The golden rule with Titleist is they release a new driver/woods and irons/hybrids every other year (opposite of one another).  Big reason I love them because their clubs keep that classic Titleist look and they do not constantly release new stuff like the others do.  You can buy their stuff now and it will hold up well for several years to come.

@Divotmaker77 is correct as far as their history of product releases. I bought the 710 CBs a when they came out and they finally wore out and I upgraded to the 716 AP2. Its a solid club but sometimes I miss the sleeker look of the CBs.

Drivers are 9 series right now. 917 now, then 915 before. No 916 or 716. The woods are on odd years and the irons are on even.  I would guess that the 718 irons will be out in the fall. Next year will be the 919 driver more than likely. Had you known the trend, you could have waited for the "917" but you probably would not have gotten them for the same price.

Thanks Valleygolfer. Yes, I know that. I should have done a better job of proof reading my post.

Lovin' my 915 Driver and the fairway woods. I knew the 917 was coming out when I bought it at the beginning of last year. But I just could not wait to upgrade from my very old Taylor Made driver and fairway woods. Will probably get the 919 driver when it comes out next year.

I'll get a set of the new 718 irons when they come out this fall. I'm really looking forward to it.

I know. My Vokey SM6 wedges are 50, 54, and 58.

There is a big gap from the AP1 P wedge to my 50/sand wedge.

Technically yes, there will be a new iron line from Titleist this year. But it will very likely not being until October. I'm not sure but I think Acushnet's fiscal year runs October 1-September 30. So their 2018 FY starts in October, so you can expect AP1, AP2, CB, and MB models in full iron sets of sure around that time frame.

I want, I want, I want these irons. I'm way overdue for an upgrade in the irons department. I'm still playing my Titleist 2005 era 5 thru PW 862 set.

BTW - the part time pro shop guy at my club told me the other day (as he was loading my bag onto the cart) that my 862s are going to be non-conforming as of this year. It's because because they have square grooves. Good eye.

I just wish I could hit my irons well enough to have a productive fitting for a new set I'm working on it. It's been a struggle so far. I was hitting my 9, 7, and 5 for over an hour today on the range.

My drives land in the middle of the fairway, but that is when the trouble starts. I had a good lesson a couple of weeks ago, hitting only the 7 iron. But, I have a long way to go.

These new irons look good to me, and that is a good start.

If you meant the 762, the pro shop guy is mistaken.  They are conforming according to the USGA.

Thank you Grouch. You are correct on both counts.

I'm looking forward to replacing my 2001 era irons with a (much) newer version. :)

Those 762s are great irons.  Aside from distance gains through stronger lofts, I doubt you'll notice a material improvement in performance with the latest model.  Sure, there's a placebo effect from playing something new, but that eventually fades.  At least that's been my experience over the last 20 years and 8 different iron models.  In fact, I'm now using irons older than your 762s!

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
