It seems like the golf channel has gone more toward instructional shows (golf fix, school of golf, etc..) in the past couple of years. I used to enjoy watching Pipe Dream about the guy who was homeless trying to make it. I liked the Big Break in the beginning but it seemed to lose some steam. What I really miss are some of the old films/shows that they used to show. Celebrity golf with Sam Snead I loved. They used to replay the some of the old "Big Three" programs. I got a kick watching those guys play in the primes. I also miss the old Shell Wonderful world of Golf episodes they would replay. I'm not really complaining about the current programing but it would be nice to occasionally throw in some of the old stuff one night a week. Throw back Thursday? I do watch Feherty

My bag:

Taylor Made R7 (x-stiff).
Taylor Made Burner 2 irons (stiff)
Cleveland Wedges (gap and 60)
Odyssey two ball putter (white)

Yes I have to admit I watched that one. Actually I was having this conversation with a guy I work with because the Golf Channel is on all the time.

I appreciate the fact that it seems that they play Tin Cup at least once a week.  (The wife notsomuch.)  I occasionally have to turn off the instructional programming because I already get instruction from a pro once a week and I've found that trying to fill my head with so many tips and take them to the range gets overwhelming.  Trying to work on more than maybe one or two things at a time gets my gray matter mixed up.  Not to mention the contradictory advice.

Outside of live golf, the only things I will turn on the Golf Channel for are the occasional Feherty interview and some Live From stuff at big events. Do they still have the Morning Drive show? Man, that show was bad.

"Witty golf quote."

Now if they would just do the same with "Who's your Caddie?"....

I don't get Golf Channel (cut the cord) so I can't really comment on the programming. However, I can comment on my buddy who watches the channel religiously, especially the instruction. Overall his game has improved. He's hitting it longer and more solidly. He's also spotted some things that I was doing wrong and helped me iron them out.

On the negative side, there are times when he'll stand over a shot and you can practically hear the gears in his mind whirring away! He's thinking too much about too many swing thoughts. Almost invariably, a bad shot will be the result. And to this day he still fights the tendency to aim right, throw the club over the top, and pull the ball back into the fairway.

I love watching those shows on the golf channel.  Especially Michael Breed.   But, ultimately, it's not really personalized instruction, so you don't really get too much instruction from it.   Maybe a swing thought idea here and there, and some short game drills to work on.  As a matter of fact, I think a long while ago, I learned how to hit out of the sand from the golf channel.  That is still, to this day, the one skill I gain strokes on all of my friends at.   (unfortunately, I imagine bunker shots are like a SV (-8), given that I have like 1 per round.  tops.)

But, it's still quite enjoyable nonetheless.   It's always fun to listen to people talk about the golf swing.  If your'e in to that kinda thing.
