Got to the course for today's round early.  Part of it was that if I didn't, I'd be sitting in traffic.

But part of it was to do some putting drills for 10 minutes before starting my "pre-round" warm-up.  I did a circle of 3' and a few 5-6', as well as speed drills.  Did it help?  I think so.

6/22: Finally a day with no rain!!

Was family game night, so no course time, but I did get ~30 minutes out front... 10 minutes of slow-mo backswings, focus on hip turn/no sway, a few reps and then an easy shot at a target, rinse and repeat. 10 minutes of pitching practice, hitting at my buckets. And another 5-10 minutes just hitting shots (at targets) for fun.

Played 18 in very wet conditions.    Practiced for 35 minutes chipping until they allowed us on the golf course.   On the golf course, since it was so wet, I just tried to focus on keeping my weight forward.

6/23: Sunshine and no rain today!  Walked nine holes after work, shot 4 over. Was playing well, but felt stiff and rusty. Stuck a couple of wedge approaches close but couldn't convert on the birdie putts. Great fun, though.

Played 18 again in very wet conditions.    Still working with my driver.   Only hit 5 fairways so I hit a small bucket of balls afterwards, working on setup and take away.  It's a shame I didn't hit the range before I played instead of after...I was on the first tee before the course opened.

6/24/17:

Practiced chipping a bit in the yard this morning.

I got out and played 18 yesterday. After being +5 thru 4 holes. I was +5 the rest of the way for a solid 82. With a double on 18. I only hit 3/18 GIR (ouch), but after the 3rd most of my misses were nGIR, and had some easy chips and got up and down for par 8 times. I also had a near under GIR on 9 but misjudged the chip a bit, and left it 10 feet short. But it's getting better I think I'm just a little bit away from a 10 GIR round. 27 putts, which I'll take most of my one-putts were inside 3 feet though after some great chipping.

Apparently my 6/23 post didn't go thru:

6/23 - putting 6-8ft for bead; pitching x 5 mins

6/24- pitching in backyard with foam balls. Working of pitching technique and straight trajectory

6/24 Several 5 minute increments today, but nothing as concentrated as the end of last week:

* 3-4 times today, set up to a ball with the mirror away from me (relative to what the target would be if I swung).  Worked on my backswing priority piece from evolvr.  Indoors, with ball, but no contact.

* Twice today took my grip (admittedly, not my Edel putter, but another putter with a similar grip in the golf room) and hit a few putts on the ruler to acclimate to the drill.  The thing I really learned is that I need to use a real golf ball, because wow can I keep that plush one online!

6/25/17:

Some swings making sure I'm not rushing my transistion from backswing to downswing. Getting the feeling of a slight pause at the top.

6/25 - range day! Playing with the boss Friday, so wanted to get some things ironed out.

Centered turn is becoming second nature, so I worked on some set up issues pointed out on my swing thread. Hit really well...it's been awhile so it was nice to have that going into the next round

    • It’s winter here and time hitting at my indoor place.  This year I bought and sold a few sets so I didn’t settle in on anything. For this coming season, starting now I have a choice to make.  What set would you guys use? 1.  Nike Vapor Pro irons - They are like new, hit them some last year before I had to demo other sets.  I love them, original grips, barely used so I’m almost not wanting to use them to keep their value up.  Standard LLL and standard grips. 2. Taylormade P7TW irons - Still in the box.  Got them over a year ago but had too much to hit, never used them.  Have used a set in the past and loved them.  Ended up with my own set custom fit to me -1/4”, 1 degree flat midsize grips.  These are probably not as valuable because they are still available and they are fit to me. I hate to put the Nikes away but it makes more sense to save them than the TW’s…. I dunno….
    • Day 215 (3 Dec 24) - Another very chilly day - opted to work on easy pitches in the backyard. Worked thru the irons and wedges - focused on foot position and tempo.
    • Yes. I believe in using the same ball all of the time, including chipping and putting practice. I use the orange Callaway Supersoft.  Only $25 per dozen, and sometimes on sale for $20.
    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
