Hi All!

I'm so happy to have found this forum!   I picked golf up early this summer and absolutely love it.  I play on the bergen county, NJ golf courses and would love to find some partners that are on the same level as I am. Right now I am shooting about 115-120.  My shots are not long but they are straight :)

I'd love to find other players in my area.

Thanks so much

Welcome, @Gemgirl63!

There's lots of good instruction info found here (under Info/Instructional Content in the menu above). I always recommend starting with reviewing the very basics like how to grip a club, and how to adjust your posture. They seem like they might be intuitive or natural for a new player, but I have learned that without those basics, the swing won't improve much since your starting point is off and you end up compensating with incorrect motions. Hope that makes sense. I know the way I wanted to stand and hold the club were just terrible, and it took some adjustment to get those in a better place where I had a better chance of swinging with a more sound motion.

Good luck! Feel free to jump in on various topics, and you'll get a sense of how regional gatherings tend to work. They spring up from time to time around the country as people volunteer to organize them, and they're a great opportunity to meet some fellow golfers here.

Welcome to TST, @Gemgirl63.

I actually grew up in Bergen County, but I haven't lived there for some time so I can't help you in the search for a partner!  What courses do you play there?

Welcome to TST! Bergen County is not too far north of me, I'd bet @nevets88 might know of some courses in the area.

welcome neighbor !  You'll find golf is alot, meaning A WHOLE LOT cheaper in the pocono's.   It's worth the hour drive on weekends.    As you're learning the game, may I suggest trying the 9 hole course at Lake Lackawanna in Stanhope, NJ.    It costs $16 to walk - it's a great course to learn on - it's empty this time of year too.  If you're familiar with golfnow.com - you can get some deals on tee times.   Minebrook and Apple Mountain are the most affordable in the NNJ area - I always play my best golf at Apple Mtn (it's not an easy course, but it just suits my eye).   THere's a 9 hole course called Fairway Valley near Apple Mtn that is another nice course to learn on.  Straight is the name of the game in golf - distance will come.
