Hi guys and gals! As of recently, I am in the market for a new set of irons and am looking for your help. In the past I have been hitting Callaway's XR irons that provide a lot of forgiveness but am now looking to make the transition to a club with a little less forgiveness and more precision. I am currently an 8 handicap. Any thoughts?

Make sure you try Ping. I think it's a really good product. I recently hit some of those at the store and wow, made my AP1's feel like an old boat car w/ AM radio and no air conditioning. If I ever get new irons I will definitely look at those Ping again.

If you want to stay in the Callaway, I would suggest you try the Apex line:

CF16: 5i 24°,  38" shaft || PW 45°, 35.75" shaft // stock shaft = TT XP95 steel

Pro16: 5i 27°,  38" shaft || PW 46°, 35.75" shaft // stock shafts = Project X steel, Recoil 95/110 graphite

Have tried both at multiple demo days. Some single-digit players like the CF16 or the 2014 Apexes better than the pro versions. Apexes offer offer multiple shaft options at no upcharge.

Give 'em a try!

@sppitts, the CF16s are great irons. Check out my review of them here:

I'll tell you that you should get fitted, though. I ended up swapping out the XP95s for KBS Tours. The 95s were too light for me and I ended up getting better numbers with the heavier KBS Tours.

I’m partial to Mizuno and Titleist, but clubs are a very personal choice for many, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
