  • iacas changed the title to 8000+ Yard Golf Courses for a Major

With a pro's length all the holes look reachable in GIR. Most of us amateurs would struggle in getting anywhere close to par unless we have great scrambling skills due to the length though. Most pro's will shoot a sub par round on any course, unless the design forces specific shots

What's in the bag

  • Taylor Made r5 dual Draw 9.5* (stiff)
  • Cobra Baffler 4H (stiff)
  • Taylor Made RAC OS 6-9,P,S (regular)

Length, in itself, is not a good enough defense against the best players in the world Not to mention it's at 10,000 feet above sea level. The rating and slope are not off the charts. Liberty National Golf Club has a higher rating and slope and plays almost 1,100 yards shorter.

Pretty much this, yea. The length of the course isn't that impressive once you factor in the elevation, especially for pros. The ball travels 15% farther so the course effectively plays like 7,200 yards at sea level. It's certainly not Hazeltine.

Yeah, Torrey Pines South's course rating/slope is 78.2/144 for the US Open tees, playing from ~7700 yards. The course rating here is less than that, and that's because of the altitude. Colorado courses are like this - we get significantly lower course ratings because of the elevation. There wouldn't be a ton of pros breaking par over 4 rounds, but a decent amount would be able to.
