You don't need decades luckily, there are way more chemicals in a cigarette than an e-cigarette.

Of course you need longer studies. Cigarettes usually don't cause cancer in 5 or 10 years. It takes decades. And considering vaping marketing is often targeted at kids and young adults, we have to worry about that.

As @iacas pointed out, the "number" of chemicals is irrelevant.

The question is not whether e-cigs are safer than regulard cigarettes.  It is whether vaping is safe.  Kids are vaping like crazy, my son included, and we should be pouring money into research before we have another generation addicted and dying of cancer or some other disease.

Exactly.

Frankly, I'm not sure how anyone with an IQ north of 70 smokes cigarettes (I can kinda understand an occasional cigar). Nor an IQ north of 85 vapes.

There is a proven, strong inverse relationship between IQ and smoking. Can we please change labels on these products to say, "you're smoking? You must be stupid". 😉

In NJ and NY use of electronic smoking devices are included in the legal definition of smoking and thus is prohibited wherever smoking is prohibited.

I like that!    In Michigan they are raising the age limit to 21 to officially purchase vaping junk.

"Juuling" seems to be a much bigger problem than smoking ever was for underage kids, at least since the time I was a kid to now. There were only a handful of people I knew in school that smoked and not one would have dared smoke in class, but according to my youngest daughter kids regularly Juul in class when the teacher's back is turned. And this is in a Christian school, I can't imagine what it's like in some city schools. It seems like vaping/juuling has made much more attractive to the younger crowd because there's no "stigma" associated with it or the nasty smell that comes with cigarettes.

Vaping is bad. Stunner. Who knew?

Whether its vaping, smoking, drinking excessively, over-eating, snorting cocaine, shooting heroin or any other damn thing, these are coping mechanisms.

Nobody ever thought these things were some kind of health kick.

For those of you with snide comments about people's level of intelligence, consider whether these people value things differently than you do. Personally, I'd rather not bang on until I'm 70 or 80 years old.

Nobody values living until 70 when they're 14 (not saying you are 14). See how you feel when you're 65 (I'm not 65 either), healthy, happy, and have grandchildren.

The last marble will roll out of my head between age 55 and 65. When it does, I'll be totally useless to anyone or anything. I won't be earning the family any money. I'll be costing it.

But I am glad for you. Hopefully you have many more.

Thanks, but I have none. I'm actually younger than that, but old enough to realize life goes by fast. One day you will too.

My sister-in-law allows both her teenage daughters to vape saying "it's not bad for you". She's a lawyer so you can't debate anything with her because her law degree automatically makes her smarter than everyone else (according to her).

She also allows them to smoke weed, but draws the line at alcohol because she "picks her battles" and alcohol is bad for you. I just hope her kids don't pay for her poor parenting later in life with addictions and pulmonary problems.

The two schools where I teach do very well with public awareness.   I'm not naive enough to believe everyone thinks vaping is safe or safer but peer pressure is strong and unless the parents are proactive it's a losing battle.

Kids are now putting pot in their Juuls.

I'm sure. Luckily, it's not an all or nothing thing. Public awareness, education, and parental involvement may not stop the kid from vaping right now, but it can have an effect that makes them quit earlier, or not move to cigarettes, etc.

Are there cartridges that are for sale, or do they make their own extract?

This is actually where Vaping came from, started with the weed.  As a matter of fact, when you go to a dispensary in a state where it's legal, most people are purchasing liquid cartridges.

Like all things, you can only teach your kids the best you can and lead them to the right path.   I went to a suburban, affluent high school in Minnesota, and there were lots of kids smoking in high school and more than a few that were doing it in Junior High.   and this was in the 90's.   go back to the 80's and songs like "smokin' in the boys room" were pop hits, and I'm sure you'll see a much different story.
