Tiger looked good, especially considering how long he's been out of action. Spieth, my current favorite, put on a mini-charge at the end of the first round. How exciting would it be if both Tiger and Jordan would be in contention on Sunday? With a field of only 18, I know it's not that hard to be in contention, but still ... when was the last time we were so excited about a golf tournament in December? Looking forward to the weekend.

I forgot about Spieth...:P

Great drive on 3 too. Although I'm struggling to get my head round 180mph ball speed and only 279 carry. 180mph ball speed should be well north of 300 carry I would think. I guess it's windy, but it doesn't look that windy to my eye.

It's pretty windy. The flags on the range are blowing, the bushes and trees are blowing…

-2 through 3. Hit two putts 8-10 feet past though. :-P

Just watched that swing, you're right, it seems like it should've been much longer

Just stuffed it on 4 too.

@iacas why do you think he keeps hitting his putts so hard? Do you think that he's chasing it? Or just rust? Something else?

I think he's always been an aggressive putter, not afraid of five footers coming back. Although today he's doubled that lol....

I'm streaming it at work and it's laggy also.  Lots of pauses, like just as he was stroking that missed birdie putt on the 5th.

It's driving me batty - it's a good thing my mood is good from how well he's playing

You gotta figure that a bajillion people like us are streaming it from work right now, so my guess is that would account for the lag.

I think he knows the full swing is how you truly score, and hasn't put a lot of time into putting or his short game lately. Remember, six weeks ago, that was all he could do, too, so he probably got bored with it, and has spent a lot of time on his full swing lately.

So, his tempo, pace, touch, etc. is just a wee bit off.

    • That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 40 yrs My current handicap index or average score is: 4.0 factor My typical ball flight is: Straight however sometimes slight draw. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn. • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
