Day 7: 2/29/2024

Got a lot of work in today.
Did my backswing work in front of the mirrors. Then I did some gates on the putting mat using the perfect putt as a target. Simply repeated an 8 footer through the small gate until I got the ball to stop in the perfect putt cup. I did that two times. I also got to the range where I did a little work on my priority pieces, but spent most of my time working on where, not how, I'm trying to gauge where I am right now.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 487, February 29, 2024

Worked for only ten minutes today. Not a lot of time. But, they were good, and solid. Faster downswings start tomorrow!

Day 79 (01 Mar 24) - Worked on putting with focus on start line and target point.   Started by putting along the side seam of the rug in the shop (it rolls pretty well) - to keep the ball parallel the entire lenght, then moved to hitting a target point on the rug, even did a little of the Jordan Speith thing of putting "blind", i.e. looking at the target point and not the ball.   Got some really consistent rolls through the target point with good rollout just past (less than 2').

Day 488, March 1, 2024

Went downtown and worked for two hours. Starting to add some speed to the downswing move. Got the Quad out for the last little bit… Swing speeds were 93 MPH when I was going nearly full speed (6I), path ranged from +2 to +5.5. AoA was occasionally -5°, but sometimes +1.5°… because I've been doing so much work with my arms I just have to spend a little time on my legwork and collarbones staying "in" the shot a little. I could deliver -4 to -5° pretty consistently when I thought about it a little. Smash was 1.3 on the "bad" ones to 1.4 on the good ones. Launch was a bit high, but that tracked along with the AoA of course. That stuff I'm not worried about. Again, it's just remembering to use my lower body correctly.

Very pleased with today's results. I spent much of the time at 83 MPH or so.

Did my overspeed training today.
Also about 10 minutes in front of the mirror working on my backswing.

Plus some gate drills on the indoor putting mat.

Day 80 (02 Mar 24) - woke to a soggy yard (steady rain overnight), was able this afternoon to get outside to work on some pitch work with the 54, using the tulip tree (about 20' high) as an obstacle to get up and over.  Was a good challenge to used the bounce to not "plow the soft soil" and get the ball up and over the tree.  Solid strikes flew up, and over and close to the target.  Heavy strikes put the ball in the tree.  A good visual drill to really dial in distance (was only hitting about 25 - 30 yards).

Day 490, March 3, 2024

15-20 minutes before JEP. Had to get to Costco after that, so no time to do a good hour afterward. Playing 18 tomorrow, though.

    • That is absolutely insane. I’ve never played a 6 hour round before. Once I played a round that took 3:00 for the front nine and I walked off. I was kind of salty about that at the time because the guy in the shop said if I wait 10 minutes to check in, I’d get twilight rates, but what he failed to mention were the three other groups lined up ahead of me doing the exact same thing. Totally not worth the $20 I saved. I played a course once that was kind of the opposite. Despite being built in the 90’s, the contours on the greens were ridiculous and they had to keep the greens fairly long to compensate. It was an awful experience.
    • Asked a friend of mine how his Monday round was at Trull Brook GC.  He said it was awful… took 6 hours and 45 minutes.  He said they went inside to complain afterwards and the course didn’t care.  They told him “it’s bust, nothing we can do about it.”. Can u  imagine??  It’s a short well kept 18 hole course that does shave their greens down so it’s really not fun to play there.  The greens were built back before mowers could cut them that short .He said it was $100 to play as well.
    • I knocked off 2 more holes today.  Shot 78 from blues (6670yds).  Had 4 birdies, 2 of them on holes I hadn't yet birdied this year. Now only 3 more holes to go:  The 2 lowest Hcp holes and a Par-5 (can't believe I haven't taken this one down yet).
    • This week on league I broke my driver during my tee shot.  I re-teed it and took Stroke & Distance.  My playing partners tried to tell me not to take a penalty since it "was not my fault". It totally ruined my round but I felt the S&D penalty was appropriate. Specifics: I was on the 9th tee.  I hit my driver and really thought I hit it well but the ball went only 20 yards into a waste area in front of the tee box.  So I re-teed it and said "I'm hitting 3".  On the 2nd tee shot I again felt I hit it crisp but the ball shot weakly to the left going next to the #8 green and during my follow though the shaft shattered @ 8 inches above the club head.  So I head over to my ball "Hitting 4" (I need to verbalize these penalties or I may fail to count them) and that is when they all said to not count any penalties because it was very possible the shaft was breaking on the 1st tee shot. One guy even tried to sound authoritative and said "There was no intent to play a broken club so the shot does not count".  They even tried the "Its not fair, if the club had not broke you would likely be in much better position so do not penalize myself". I did take the S&D penalty and played my 4th from where the 2nd tee shot ended up and finished with an 8 on the Par 4 and lost my match by 1 stroke.  I know it sucks, but in my mind I see no way around the S&D penalty. Comments?
    • I'd like to know the head weight on the Putter Odyssey DF 550, I was wondering to find some new putter with same or more weight on the head. Many thanks for the help!
