Day 65, January 4, 2022

Worked on GEARS today. I'll make a post later tonight in my Member Swing topic. Pretty happy with a lot of what I worked on.

I wish GEARS didn't upload the deleted swings to the Web Locker.

Day 436: Range today. Started with some feel work WRT my priority pieces. The feel during transition is flattening along with right elbow driving down (maintaining >90 degrees) as my hips start the downswing and my left foot pushing my left hip back. Did these slowly at first with PW, 7 iron then driver.

Moved on to SuperSpeed training using a Fit for Golf protocol. Hit a pretty high driver speed, 101, which surprised me as I haven’t done speed work for a while.

Moved on to distance wedge work then finished with short game shots to targets. I was under an enclosure when the rain came and wind shifted. So I also worked on flighting the wedges down.

Day 14, 1/5/2022.

I spent a little under an hour in the garage today hitting balls. Mostly 6 irons. But I also hit a half dozen 8-iron shots. a half dozen fairway wood shots and a half dozen hybrid shots. Just working on my priority piece. I was kind of enjoying myself and I almost forgot to take some video. So, I grabbed a video of my swing at with a 6 iron at the end of the session. I haven't looked at it yet.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 74 (01/05/22) - Did Day 6 - Basic Chipping inside today, focusing on setup and did the "dime" drill. As I hit the back dime more often than not, this drill will get quite a lot of focus this off-season.

Day 29 (05 Jan 2021) - Got outside today before the rain started back and worked with the 58deg wedge.  The goal of today was to "accurately" place the shots in the target zone, using good form (no flippy wrist stuff to help the ball).  Worked on getting the wedge to bounce lightly and trust the club to launch the ball.   Thanks to the warmer weather, I could use the three "holes" in the backyard - they are roughly 20 - 25 yards apart, so for me these are a good distance to work the lob wedge.  Thanks to my grandson each hole has a name - there the "flag hole" as it has an old bicycle flat on the stick, there is the trashcan hole as it is near the trashcan (duh?) and finally there is the garage door hole that is in front of the garage door.  When hitting from the garage hole area, you can easily set it up to where you have to hit over the corner of the shop.  This is actually the most fun as you have to go over the eave, miss the shrubs and then get the ball to land and check up before rolling off to the fence.  Also I mix up the ball placement - no two shots are from the same spot so each shot is a little different.  Today, I finished up the drill with 4 of the 5 balls within my 6' circle of fame (see photos).

Day 66, January 5, 2022

Worked on the backswing at maybe 80% speed today before lessons. The 100% swings from GEARS were encouragingly good.

Day 15. 1/6/2022

Did my putting drills first thing this morning. Usually I like to stretch and first and get my mirror work in. But today I started by rolling 6 footers down a string line. Then I did the gate drill from day 15 of the Covid practice challenge.

I've noticed my putting miss tends to be a pull. So, I'm going to have to keep an eye on that.

Day 75 (01/06/22) - Nice enough to practice outside today so I worked for abut 10 minutes on setup with the driver, followed by chips with my 58*. Regarding the latter, it was a good way to follow-up on yesterday's indoor practice with the "dime" drill. I chipped 3 sets of 8 balls each (i) somewhat down hill, (ii) somewhat uphill and (iii) relatively level. For the first two sets, I paid attention to distance and specifically, how much longer swing it took to go the same distance uphill that I went downhill. Had pretty tight dispersion for each set.

Day 32.  1/06/2022

Spent some time today trying to feel the inside out swing with driver. Small swings at first before adding speed and also trying to feel an upward aoa.

Also repeated day 07 (basic pitching) of 30 day Covid-19 practice plan.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
    • Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
