Day 215, June 3, 2023

Hit a bunch of 8I during a playing lesson. One of the kids shot his best-ever nine-hole score, and did it at Whispering Woods on the back nine, no less!

Day 40 - Hit balls and then some indoor putting. Irons are pretty solid, new setup feels really good and ball flight is repeatable and predictable.

Driver is still a mess, not repeatable or predictable right now. Setup changes are going to take more practice to get right. It's such a small change but feels like I'm learning how to swing driver all over again. (I guess I am in reality)

Going to do a proper practice session tomorrow filming slow swings with a lot of rehearsals with driver.

Day 5: 6/3/2023

Worked on my priority piece with a 7 iron in the mirror. Than ran to the garage and hit balls into the net focusing on the priority piece.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 2: Time at the range

First opportunity to try and swing and hit a ball at range - woefully bad. Varied through Driver/3wood/5wood/6-8-9iron. As expected alot of whiffs and slices.

Longest hit was around 175 with the Driver from the tee, got a 130 with the 3wood from the floor. Cleanest hit by far was a 9iron to around 125y dead center.

Lots to focus on before I head back down next week, mainly maintaining shape through the swing and avoiding addition wrist movement that was causing a few slices, didnt hook much but only had 50balls this week

Day 16:

Played 18 this morning. Terrible night of sleep plus 530am tee time would have been a struggle even if I had been sharp, but I wasn't. Actually scored okay considering (85), but too many horrendous misses to do much better than I did.

Hit about 40 balls working on backswing length and hands down. I could feel the bad backswing creep in. Which good thing I can start to feel that more.

Day 41 - Solid practice session mainly focusing on priority piece with driver. Filmed some swings for evolvr and practiced slowly.

Did some short putting too, getting quite confident with my old putter, made 6 straight putts from 6ft to the mini cups on the green, something I hadn't come close to doing with my other putter.

Day 3

Following some great feedback on my awful swing technique this will he my focus. Managed my setup/approach and that is feeling more natural, focusing on shoulder twist whilst keeping hips flat as this doesnt feel comfortable (partly due to a back issue).

Spent time working through the backswing in stages.

Day 14, June 5th 2023

Range session working on same stuff. Backswing length and right elbow bend. Hands down to right pocket.

First 10 balls were good because I did everything in pieces. Next 10 were meh because I can’t do this at speed yet. Next 10 where good because I went back to stopping at A6 and hitting chips from there.

    • Wordle 1,652 X/6* 🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜⬜🟨⬜⬜ ⬜🟩⬜🟩🟩 ⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩 ⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩 ⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩 Yup - one of those Wordle moments….
    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
