Day 408

Early morning rise to simply go through the bag, 6 shots each club.

With the exception of the 3h and 50º, I was quite happy.  Most were fairly on line, with more than acceptable loft and acceptable distance.

The 3h was the exception in that 2 of the 6 were hit thin. I did have really nice shot for the last 3 so I finished on a happy note.

The 50º was great in distance and loft, but I still tend to hit it too much to the left.  Even allowing for this was not really what I wanted.  Perhaps I need to spend 5 days isolating this club as I did with the 6i.

Lined up a round for tomorrow, will see how much I am ready to go at 6:20 AM.

Day 114.  Twenty minutes of putting this morning, mostly inside 10', a few 12' and a few 30' though.  Putts were on the practice green of a course near my new job (still exploring golf in the area).

Day 9

Got home too late to go out back and hit balls, so I worked on my rhythm with my weighted club for about ten minutes.  I have a gifted endorsement class tomorrow night until 9:00 PM, so I probably will have to do the same tomorrow nights as well.  Really want to hit some balls.

Day 410

Based on yesterday's finding every sand trap I could, today I spent a quick 40 minutes at the sand trap works with both my 56º and 60º wedges.  I played from soft shallow sand to up tight with deep sand near a lip that guards the tree.  Took about 25 sand shots. I mainly wanted to see which wedge when.  Got a lot of good data.  Tomorrow will be more of the same to improve my knowledge for traps.

I think I could have readily saved quite a few shots yesterday.  I will be playing that course again soon.  I have to be honest, I have not spent enough tie on this aspect of my game!.

Day 22: Went to the range. Spent about 40 minutes working on my long game. Checking feels on video. Looks pretty good. Filmed the clubface challenge (video to come tomorrow). Then went and hit a couple of sand shots, because I really struggled with those this past weekend. Then spent about 40 minutes working on putting. Mostly lag putting, but ended with some work on short putts.

I was going to hit the range, but my dinner partner asked me if we wanted to go sooner, so I did.  But I did have time afterward for some putting practice:

Day 115.  Did my modified around the world at 3', only missed one (10:00), and made it on second try (I mark the ones I miss and come back, counting how many total attempts to make one from each of 12 stations).  I then tried 6' and it took me 30. :-(  I then tried to get down in two from 30' out a total of eight times, making all, although a few required me to make 6' putts... so I eventually made it.

Hopefully tomorrow's round SLP is better than the 25 handicap level (last round wasn't).  Hoping to bring SLP down to closer to my handicap level, as my other parts of my game tend to hang out at or around that spot.

Day 411

Again, up early to avoid the full on heat.

I went to a course today which has a great practice green and a practice sand trap.

I started out with 15 putts toward  the same hole from 2', 5', and  10'

2' were good even with a very slight right handed break.  All 5 were well dropped into the gopher hole.

5' were a little more iffy as the break from the right side came a bit more into play.  Despite getting the five in, the first two were iffy when it came to finding the proper speed.  One slowly rolled around while the second one was hit a tad too hard and dropped in a bit by luck,  Adjustments were made and the other three were fine.

Only 2 of the 10' dropped in.  Again, speed messed up the approach to the break and the first two were way hit too fast. Third was good and I was happy as speed seemed solid throughout. #4 stopped 2" short, which I would have felt good about in a round, but in this game was a miss. The last one was what I would like all longer putts to be.

I took 10 shots out of the trap, only working with the 54º to get some mastery of both lofting and aim.  While this is still a real work in progress, my use of vulgarities in the many languages I know was not too bad.

    • Yeah that didn't pass the smell test
    • Bryson got hit with a 2 shot penalty, after the round, for improving his lie on hole 5.  Here is a post on X, showing how he stepped on high grass when he was looking down his target line.  When they cut to the side shot, you can see how close he was behind the ball.  I think the R&A probably made the correct decision. You just have to be really careful when you are walking in the high grass, around the ball and where you are to make a swing.

    • Day 27 (17 July 26) - Normally an 18 hole day, but due to commitments abbreviated the round to 9 holes (played the back nine at home course).  Had a solid session where even the worst miss (tee shot off 18) was fully playable.  Shot a solid 39 (6pars, 3bogies) - not dbls, no three putts - just boring golf.
    • Overall, well said. People have to be very careful in trying to describe very complex problem in simple terms. In this case, it is a clear fundamental misunderstanding of Newton's 1st and 3rd laws.  To clarify more on the misinterpretation of Newton's 1st law. The exact interpretation of Newton's 1st Law....  "Every body continues in its state of rest, or of uniform motion in a straight line, unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed upon it" yea, a body will stay motionless unless a force acts upon it. An object will stay on its path of motion unless a force acts upon it.  I get it, complex physics problems are difficult. There is a lot of simplification done in most physics class when it is taught. A classic problem uses a frictionless surface. Projectile motion excludes drag and wind direction. Collisions are usually elastic. The golf swing is not a simple physics problem.  Yea, I think they got caught up the data on the graphs and are not truly understanding cause and effect.  If the golfer isn't first pushing into the ground, then the ground isn't going to push back.  The internal forces of the body create the motion, not the external forces from the ground. The ground isn't like what Psy uses to start his concert. 🤣 You probably need to be connected to the ground and have those GRF to help the body produce the motion you want. Your body has to move in the right way to produce the GRF which helps you move the body in the way you want. Body motion precedes the GRF.
