Week 2 - off season work out

Day 5

OK!! I can touch the floor when stretching again without having stomach muscle seize up or massive Charlie horses.  It has taken years to get this far after colon surgery.  I am really happy.

Started out with stretching hamstrings and neck physical therapy.  Also making dramatic improvements with my neck.  The pain level is to the point that I do not have to take any type of pain killers!  Another wonderful milestone.

Then I went into Lateral lunges and forward lunges.

Next core work

Stretching set

15 swings with SKLZ Swing Tempo Trainer

stretching set

15 swings with SKLZ Gold Flex

Core set

15 swings with SKLZ Swing Tempo Trainer

15 Swings with SKLZ Gold Flex

Core Set

Lateral and forward lunge set

Final stretching

36 minute work out and built up a nice sweat

Day 132.  Spent 20 minutes hitting balls at the indoor practice room;  indoor, off a mat, into a net, real balls.  9-iron and 6-iron.

Day 133:  same as day 132.  That's not particularly good for variety, but after failing to reach the 15hcp benchmark on approach shots last round, I'm a little worried.

Day 325

Forgot today was supposed to be a superspeed workout day, noted for tomorrow.

Worked on takeaway/backswing piece with 7-iron. I’ve mostly stopped regripping with my right hand between A1-A2, so I’m now moving into combing this rehearsal with rest of the backswing and focusing more on fully turning the hips to the point of feeling stretch in my right hip/hamstring/glute area.

Day 311 - November 3, 2020

Hit some balls downtown. First time really doing drills again for awhile, really looking forward to getting back to doing the work. But I'll probably play a few rounds this week before really getting into the swing of things for the winter.

Day 326

Didnt have energy for a superspeed workout, so did some more takeaway/backswing rehearsal work, and also hit a bunch of balls focusing on tempo. I’ve noticed anecdotally that I make much better contact with a good tempo, so I consciously focused on tempo when hitting balls while not worrying about other swing elements.

Day 134:  Same (9- and 6-iron, indoors, real balls, off a mat, into a net);  did this tonight after both work and evening TV.  I didn't feel like wandering outside to do Speed Sticks, although I know I should.

Day 12

Beautiful weather today, went to range and practiced full swing trying to incorporate the COVID Day 1-3 drills.  Still inconsistent but had some really good contact when I did it correctly.

Day 31: I could not get a tee time today. Everything was jam packed due to the weather. So went to a range and worked on my priority piece. I can tell by flight when I early extend. I come too far inside and over draw.

    • Whoops! Yep. That’s what I get for posting first thing in the morning. Anyways, Day 82: did my drill swings outside with foam balls for a solid 15 minutes. Still need hands down before turning.
    • Caddies who wear shorts in obviously cold weather are just as stupid as football players who wear short sleeves in Lambeau in January. Nobody thinks your tough. We just think you're a moron
    • I don’t have much time to practice beyond indoor putting, which I do most days.  Lately, I have been trying a variety of methods against my normal claw grip (which I changed to in 2016, or so, after developing the yips).    - Utley method - soft elbows that starts back with right elbow sliding and then uses gravity to let putter head drop and left elbow slides along left side. Great accuracy and start line, but distance control varies. - Stockton method - start with putter a little more vertical. First move back is forward press and then draw club head back. Maintain wrist angle and drive back of left hand towards target. Likely need more loft on my putter, but this has been very accurate and great distance control. Works well, for me, with both claw and index fingers pointing down the shaft.
