Day 316 - November 9, 2020

Got my new PSB golf bag, and swapped clubs and stuff into it, and… hit some putts after moving the stuff over.

Day 1

Played 9 today - putted better (14), but that only because I missed more greens and was chipping for closer 1st putts. 😏...but I did take a wider stance and practiced my pendulum and tempo. It’s one thing for me to practice it, and another thing for me to trust it on the course....I guess more reps will take care of that

Day 3.  Several five minute interludes into the practice room during work hours (and a little after) today.  6-iron and 9-iron, indoors, off a mat, into the net.  The usual.  I'll be traveling for the Masters so expect some indoor putting practice coming up :-)

Week 3 - off season program

Day 1 - restarting as I did not get any work in this weekend and I forgot to record my session yesterday, a solid day of hitting off our new mat.

This morning a great strength & conditioning work out.  42 minutes in total.  Utilized SKLZ tempo grip trainer, SKLZ Gold Flex, arm band, lunges both lateral and forward, core work and I added 2 sets of 15 swinging left handed.

Day 36: worked on a tweak in my priority piece. I need to have my right knee move more toward the target and less toward the ball on the downswing. At the instructor’s suggestion, I made a training aid to tell me if my right knee moves too far out towards the ball. It worked pretty well.

Just finished hitting 40 to 45 balls off of the new mat to add to the above for today.  10 with 8I working on some 1/2 swings, and then focusing on that 3/4 swing. 10 with the Driver, 10 with 9I from the first few at 1/2 swing and then focusing on 3/4 swing.  5 with the 5 Wood; 5 with PW with 3/4 swing

Day 333

Two days until a lesson, so just worked on my takeaway/backswing priority piece to reinforce the feels I’ve come to use. Also hit some balls with 7-iron and did some yardstick putting practice. I’ve really been digging the yardstick putting drill, and hope it adds some confidence in my next round, especially inside 10 feet.

Context:  this afternoon I left for Masters week out of town.

Day 4.  Before leaving, I had a partial work day, which included taking breaks in the practice room;  6- and 9-iron, off a mat, into a net, with real balls.

    • Where do you tend to miss it? When the green is below you, the ball is spending more time in the air, so to the extent that side spin is making it move one way or the other, it has more time to do that and therefore will be affected more. That's why it's so dang hard to hit a fairway that's a long way below you. When the ground gets in the way it stops the slice/hook spin from moving the ball away from the middle. If you play, let's say, a fade, then you want to aim further to the left to allow the fade to move the ball further. That also means if you play for a fade and don't hit a fade you're going to miss by more than you would if the green was at the same level.  I think the person who brought this up is trying to limit the impact of that by hitting it lower so the ball doesn't spend as much time in the air. If that's not how you normally hit it and you haven't practiced it, then it's likely going to be more detrimental than just figuring out how to deal with your normal shot.
