Dent on driver

Hello

Bit if advice needed. I let me friend borrow my driver at the driving range. Now when I took the club out again I notice a small dent on the top of the club. Will this effect my play?

If the dent is near the crown edge touching the face, it could fatigue the weld which can crack.
If solely on the top then it should have no potential effect unless the area is given another direct hit.
Once metal is bent, it has been weaken and susceptible to further damage in or near that area.

The edge of the dent will start to show signs of the finish chipping over a period of time.
Dents are typically an unsightly visual and seldom any impairment to performance for a period of time.

Post a photo, it may revel other details to consider.
Without seeing the club, it difficult to advise any recommendations.

It sure would affect it for me. I wouldn't be able to stand looking down at a dent in my driver.

A dent in the crown has the same affect as a bent bumper on your car or truck: it reminds you that everything does not always go as planned and that there are times when you are less than skillful.  Beyond that...it makes no practical difference; just a cosmetic one.

I think maybe another angle would show it better, or a video. Roll a marble over it or something?

Yea it’s not as bad as I thought. When looking down at it you can see a dimple but I’m having a tough time getting an accurate photo. 

It’s on the left side of the club in this picture. Hard to see but if I put my hand over it definitely a bit of a dip.

Just didn’t know as it’s somewhat close to the face if it would matter.

The honor of putting the first dent/scratch on a club should always go to the owner.

Whenever a friend gets a new car, I ask them if I can drive is "so I can be the first one to put a dent in it." They never do grant my request.

I have the same response to anyone that wants to borrow a new car, musical instrument, or golf club (even if just to "try it out for a moment"): I want to be the first one to put a scratch in it, so I'm not loaning it out till then.

Yea, I sound like a jerk, but you know who is a bigger jerk? The guy that borrows your new stuff, damages it, then "it's no big deal; it was going to get scratched eventually anyway."
