I was having a fun argument with a buddy about the most consistent performers in the golf majors since we starting following golf some twenty years ago. Some players are able to perform in the bigger events and some just simply struggle when the going gets tough. My argument was that it had to still be Tiger Woods with some 14 major victories. His argument was that Tiger had done nothing in majors in almost 10 years so it had to be somebody else. (He's also a Tiger hater) haha

Was difficult to find information on this online so would be interesting to get some fellow golfers opinions on the subject, but it is definitely Tiger ;)

Did stumble across this blog which has a Top 20 players in majors over the last twenty years https://basicgolfer.com/most-golf-majors-won-the-last-twenty-years

Ask the same question about the last 10 years and Tiger doesn’t even make the list.

As is often the case, you can get just about any answer you want, based on how you phrase the question.

In terms of present day players, Phil always played well in Majors along with Tiger.

Other guys who were not to shabby are Jack and Arnie.

Euro's who come to mind would be The Big Easy and VJ.

Some of the older guys who come to mind also would be Hale, Watson, Kite and Norman.

Depends how you rate each finish, but even with Tiger's last ten years, his 98-08 period, which is where he got 13 out of 14 wins, is better than anyone else, and nobody is even close.

If a win doesn't give much more than a 2nd place, and you calculate by position every major the last twenty years, the list would look different.

Ogio Grom | Callaway X Hot Pro | Callaway X-Utility 3i | Mizuno MX-700 23º | Titleist Vokey SM 52.08, 58.12 | Mizuno MX-700 15º | Titleist 910 D2 9,5º | Scotty Cameron Newport 2 | Titleist Pro V1x and Taylormade Penta | Leupold GX-1

Yeah I totally agree. Tiger has definitely been the most dominant in the last 20 years, but that was all mainly from 97 to 08. The last 10 years would be Phil, Rory and Spieth.

The top 5 on that list was

1 Tiger

2 Phil

3 Ernie

4 Rory

5 Vijay

I think this is accurate although there are players that have not won majors like Westwood who have been consistent over the journey.

Tiger still got nine top-10s in majors from 2009-2013, and his record pre-2009 obviously speaks for itself.  He still has to be considered "most consistent" based on sheer track record.

Beyond Tiger, you have the usual suspects of Mickelson, Els, and I'll mention someone like Jim Furyk, who was a high-quality golfer for the last two decades and racked up lots of good finishes in majors, even if he only had the one win.

Yeah definitely. Jim Furyk has had 22 Top 10s over the last two decades. Padraig Harringtion is another worth mentioning with 3 wins and 15 top 10s. Sergio Garcia has also racked up 23 Top 10 Finishes throughout the journey. Don’t forget Retief Goosen with 2 Wins and 16 Top 10s.

Angel Cabrera is another that just seems to pop up in big events.

Consistent? Who knows. Somebody might consistently miss every cut. If you make it consistently good, it has to be Tiger over 20 years. And nobody is even close.
