Few months ago I played with single handicaped player, he play golf at course at least three times a week.

I think, many people can be a single handicap too...if they can play that often.

So, is there any single handicap player that only play golf....say once a month?

BIG difference between a scratch and an 8 or a 9.

Yeah, I can easily keep it between 5 and 7 and almost never play, I believe.  If I played a lot I could get a little lower.

But just think logically, there are certainly guys out there who can keep it near scratch without ever playing.  Barring injury and until age gets the best of me, I’m never going to go above 7 or 8 or thereabouts, and there are plenty of guys who were better than scratch that stopped playing golf for various life reasons.  Those guys aren’t going to just forget everything they know - they’ll still be really good.

Thats 36 more than me.

A friend of mine in one year played six rounds of foursomes (alternate shot) and four tournament rounds. That was it. The four tournament rounds were 66, 69, 67 and 71. 69 and 67 on >7,000 yard courses. The other two on 6,800ish. Took his UK handicap from 0.9 to +1.2. He is very good indeed and played a lot when he was younger.

Its definitely doable. Probably had to play a lot at some point though.

I notice most guys that claim they are scratch play like a 7 handicap when you actually play with them. There are a lot of instagram touring pros like that.  As others said the difference between scratch and a 5 handicap is a pretty big gap. You can easily keep single digit playing once a month.

so....golfer able to maintain their "single handicap" with less play on course.

but on their way to reach that level, I think they play quite a lot (?).

I have played about 5 rounds this year, pretty good for me. Last year I didn't touch a club for the first five months of the year. That being said once the end of May hits I play about five times a week through August so I make up for my down time.
